Help Please - Covering A Ball With Fondant
Decorating By JenWhitlock Updated 13 Oct 2007 , 5:35am by cakequeen50
I'd like to make a pumpkin cake like
Nunuk's http://www.cakecentral.com/modules.php?name=gallery&file=displayimage&pid=1130783
or allycook's http://cakecentral.com/modules.php?name=gallery&file=displayimage&pid=1126603
but I'm afraid to try and cover a sphere in fondant.
I've done a few covered cakes, including square ones and get decent results, but the thought of streching it all the way around seems daunting.
do you folks have some pointers or advise?
do I need a seam somewhere?
thanks!
Great question Jen. I have been meaning to post this myself. I tried this attached globe cake a month ago and disaster struck at the bottom. Then I tried to cover it up... Thank goodness it was only for an international themed pot luck I was hosting at home.
I am looking forward to hearing any solutions.

I'm going to bump this for you again... I really need to hear some suggestions on this too! I'm doing a golf ball for my dad's 70th birthday tomorrow! EEEK!
you have to have the fondant alot bigger than you need, as you get about 1/2 way down, you need to start pulling straight out with one hand and smoothing down with the other hand, a litttle at a time. go slowly around the cake, like an inch at a time, till you get to the bottom. It will work.
Haha... that's pretty much what was said in this other thread I just found in search:

I'm still nervous though!
thank you!
cakequeen50,
since you do so much stretching, does it help to start a bit thicker than normal?
