I'm trying to figure out how much I should charge for these? It was a little time consuming and I think I will put a min order of 6 on them. Should I price them per cupcake?

Thanks
LL

Ok I'll take a guess and say $5each. Take it for what it's worth I've only sold one cake. But I would say no less than $5

Those are gorgeous!!!!! I agree- no less than $4- 6.00 each.
How did you make them?
Would you mind posting or e-mailing the instructions?
Would love to make those for a small holiday get-together I'm having with 'the girls'.

Stunning! Not a penny less than $25 for the 6, but I'd be happier with $30-35!

I have to say these are exquisite. I must agree with what bonjovibabe said about the price. $25 is a good start, but should be more in my opinion. Also if you don't mind sharing how you did these, I would love to know.

Happy Decorating,
Beth

Wow I would like to know how you did these as well.

Depending upon where you live and how much time you spent on these I would say no less than $4.00 to $5.00 each.

They are wonderful please share?

IMHO, everyone underpriced these cakes.

Where abouts in Florida are you.........I'm thinking as long as you are not in a little town in the middle of Florida your area can handle the price.

These are at least $6.50 a piece. They are fondant - correct? Then if you are selling gift boxes, I would throw another $6.00 on top of that for material for a total of $45.00.

How many hours do you have in these? At least five right? Including baking??????? If that is the case and you take away the $6.00 package fees, you would only be making $7.80 an hour! Do ya see my point here?

Charge more not less!

Thanks everyone. It's very nice of everyone. I'm pretty proud of them. I'm just a little nervous about asking that much for them. That was my initial thought was around $25. Is $3 per cupcake too much?

As far as how I made them.....

I had been wanting to do them ever since I saw them in the contest on the Wilton website. I finally figured it out. I just made regular cupcakes and made sure the top of them were flat and even. Just like you would remove a hump on a cake. Just make it level. I used a mini ball pan for the tops. I put buttercream between them and on top. I colored my fondant, rolled it out and used a large round cookie cutter to cut out the fondant. I put the fondant on top and then painted luster dust on them. Then I decorated them with royal icing. The hangers are also fondant and then details got a coat of luster dust also.

I would change a few things now, like coloring the royal icing and doing a better job on the fondant. I just ran out of time on Thursday, Thanksgiving and all. They were a little bit of a rush job.

WOW, really? I'm always afraid to charge what I should charge for my stuff. I think they are worth it. I'm in the Tampa area.

If anyone has any other questions just let me know and I will try to answer them.

I totally agree here. something like this in an upscale catalouge would be priced at $25.00 each! lol

I would go between 10 and 15 dollars each, remember...these, if purchased would probably be a hosted gift..should come in a pretty box ready to be recieved as such...
soo...10-15 would be the MINIMUM I'd charge...

But then again...I'm always charging more, since my market is a little more upscale here...just need to drop cupcake crumbs outside my shop to bring those upscale customers here...lol icon_rolleyes.gif

I'd definitely say at LEAST $5 a cupcake depending on where you live.... and the person you're selling them to. How big did they turn out? Fairly large? Then they're basically mini-cakes and should be priced as such - so $5 - $6. DOn't think of them as a cupcake b/c when you've added that ball top, and with all the decoration, I consider it a decorated mini-cake. Good luck! And Thanks SOOO much for telling us how you did them! I can't wait to get an opportunity to try this!

I agree with TipTop57. I would definitely price them around $45 or so. You have done an outstanding job and your time, effort, creativity and packaging deserves every penny.

However, set the price that you feel most comfortable with and make sure it is well worth it to you!

And thanks for sharing your techniques. I may do some for a Christmas themed cake I have to do in December.

Those are really pretty.
Another thing to keep in mind for pricing..you are giving a cupcake twice the size as a regular cupcake since you are taking a regular cupcake and adding another cake on top of that...
plus additional supplies like the custom painted/piped designs.

I had a silly question here though..any reason why you did them on top of the flat cupcakes? You could cut your time and ingredients if you just made the mini balls...I was just wondering if you did them this way because they would sit better in the box

I'd charge at least $5.00 - $7.00 each just for the cupcakes + additional for the packaging.

You did an awesome job on those!! They're beautiful...I'm also curious though as to why you did the two steps-- i'd assumed you used the mini ball pan?? Could be preference, just curious. And I agree with the $40-45 range. You deserve it!!

Let me start by saying that my husband is a very frugal man, wish I could pick up some of that icon_rolleyes.gif I just showed him the picture and he said 10$ each! Now keep in mind we live right outside of NYC so he is used to paying way to much for things and feeling ripped off. He reminded me of the 5$ cupcakes I made him buy last time icon_lol.gif That seems high to me but I agree with bonjovibabe they are really 2 cakes so I think around 45$ is perfect.

Wow, I'd just like to say they are amazing. You've given me a fabulous idea on that little extra Christmas present for my family, I'm going to do individual ones for each of my family members. I have most of my Chrissy shopping done, I was just after that one more extra thing. They are very cool. Thank you for the amazing inspiration! Is there a link to where the Wilton site ones are that you saw. I hope that it's OK to borrow your idea!

I'm in Sydney, Australia but I would think minimum $5 US if not more. Maybe you should ask some customers what they would be willing to pay to get an idea. I mean here you can buy balls like that you hang on the tree and you get them customized to have people's names written on them etc, they are like $10 each or so, I would imagine if you got orders for these, people might ask for some customization colour wise etc, so asking $40 or $50 US for a box of 6 seems quite reasonable to me!

Cheers

I'm going to do a small tray of these for the kids of a coworker. I fear that may start an avalanche of orders, so I'm going to price them accordingly. I do NOT want to spend my holiday doing endless ornament cupcakes! Mine will be covered with molded chocolate toppers instead of fondant, which IMHO is easier than fondant, but still....five bucks apiece is what I'm going to ask. That will knock some people out of the running. Only people who REALLY want them will go for it, and that's fine with me. This is only a hobby for me, and I don't want to take on more than I can handle.

If you have a cupcake underneath and then the ornament ball on top made of cake I'd say it would be 2 serving but the is just MHO. There are days where I have a sugar craving so bad that it would only be 1 serving to me icon_lol.gificon_lol.gificon_lol.gif
