Just reading some posts about how many mixes used to fill various pan sizes, and it got me wondering, how much do your mixes weigh (what does it say on the pack)? The ones I use here (local store brand for 0.65 compared to BC for 4.29 icon_eek.gif !) contain 225g / 8oz. I'm curious about how much mix is in the BC, DH etc mixes that you can buy in other countries.

The standard size in the US is 517g/18.25 oz. The are some brands that are in smaller boxes but I can't remember the size off-hand since I don't use those!

Pillsbury Butter Recipe: 1 lb. 2.25 oz (517g)

Duncan Hines Devil's Food: 1 lb. 2.25 oz (517g)

Betty Crocker Triple Chocolate Fudge: 1 lb. 2.4 oz (522g)

These all make a two layer, bundt or 13x9x2 cake or 24 cupcakes.

Do your mixes only make a one layer cake?

Thanks JANH! That's really helpful! Now when someone says a certain size pan used X number of boxes, I'll know that it's more like two of mine for each of theirs! The box mix I use says to divide between 2 7" pans, but I've never actaully done that - I normally bake bigger cakes (around 10") and make 2 cakes with 3 boxes in each mix icon_lol.gif

Wow, kelly75, that'd be a pretty small cake for the average (mom/dad& 2 1/2 kids) family.

Of course, then you wouldn't have to worry about left-overs....

I've seen Trading Spaces (UK based interior decorating program) and those tiny refrigerators don't look like they could hold much else if you make 10" cakes (that require refrigeration).

How do you manage?

Oh JanH, don't get me started about fridges! icon_lol.gif We actually have two! But an american fridge-freezer (as we call them here!) is top of my wish list - closely followed by a range oven (I can't even fit two 8" pans side by side in my current one!

Oh, you poor baby.

You must be very dedicated to decorating, or really like cake. (I really like eating cake.)

Baking must be an all day affair when you're making cakes that require a large number of servings!

But you can't bake ahead and freeze like some do here in the States....

Guess I have a few more things to be thankful for tomorrow... like huge refrigerator/freezers and ovens big enough to roast a 25# turkey (or multiple cakes).

We didn't actually buy two - we're renting and there was already one in the house when we moved in!

I'm making a three-tiered cake tomorrow, so the oven is going to be working overtime icon_lol.gif
