I have shown some folks how i have my cake stuff organized and have been asked to expand on it. Let me start by saying we rent a small 1,100 square foot home with a small galley kitchen. We use our spare bedroom as an office and craft room. I have merged all my cake decorating supplies in with my sewing, scrabooking, wrapping area and only have the baking necessities in the kitchen (with the pans all stacked in the laundry closet that's in our dining room LOL). Below are pictures to guide you thru how I made everything fit in a very small space. I am a perfectionist and love organization so for a lot of you this will seem over the top... but i am still trying to improve it daily. LOL I have my dried royal icing flowers (that i make ahead of time) in containers and labelled on top of a book case. On that bookcase is also all my chocolate molds, choc melting pot and cups. The next shelf is all my cake boards and then the next shelf are my cake books, recipes, etc. My hubby bought me the rolling craftsman cart and i have the drawers organized by task and size. the hanging cabinet on the wall (a screw, nut, bolt holder from a hardware store) holds all my tips by category and i have my dragees on top in air tight see thru containers. Luster dusts are kept with dragees once opened, back up supply is with the color gels in that drawer. ok, welcome to my over organized world (my husband laughs every time he sees me with the label maker! LOL)

Thanks for sharing. I was wondering how everyone keeps all this stuff organized. I never thought of using a tool chest(and I work for that company icon_rolleyes.gif ). Now if I could figure out what to do with these pans...

Wow! I LOVE how you've stored your tips! Are the drwaers seperated by number, or by round, basketweave, etc? Where did you get your container for them? I may have to do this! I thought I was organized by having rolling carts, but you put me to shame! I live in a house about the size of yours, but don't have an extra bedroom icon_cry.gif

I have too much other stuff in my craft room upstairs to fit my cake stuff too! Plus I have to use that space as a guest room. I don't think I've done too bad organizational-wise with what I have. I know I have about 30 pans and over 200 cookie cutters, not to mention tips and icing colors, candy molds and other little do-dads! I can't do anything halfway!!

You did a great job with your stuff and it looks amazing!! Thanks for sharing!! Any organizing tips help!!

I see that you have your fanci foils on the floor in the corner.

That is considered a health hazard, nothing that comes into contact with your food should be stored on the floor.

But everything else looks amazing. Great Job on using those Craftman storage units!
I have the rolling tool carts because I do demos!

I have a label maker and I havent figured out how to use it..lol

That's GREAT! I'm pretty organized too, but not that organized! LOL. I have that same Craftsman tool chest, but unfortunately, I used it to organize all our tools and home repair stuff. When I got it, DH didn't see why we needed it. Well, he's been kissing my feet for the last year since now he can FIND all the sockets and wrenches and nails and screws, etc. in a few seconds versus a half hour. Now, if I could just get him to put the tools and supplies AWAY after using them, then I would be able to find it right away too.

For all of you crafters, this is what I use for storage in my craft room. I would take pics, but we are changing rooms - switching the craft room for the downstairs study, so it's all in upheaval. But, this is only $120 from Ikea. I store all my sewing stuff in there. I have two of them. Also, they are counter height (as they are kitchen carts), so you can use them in your kitchen and they have laminate tops (like in a kitchen) so it's a good surface for working on too. Oh, and I've had ours for 5 years and they are still like new - smooth sliding drawers and no damage despite three moves too.

http://www.ikea.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?topcategoryId=15576&catalogId=10103&storeId=12&productId=13169&langId=-1&categoryId=15731&chosenPartNumber=40016834

There's also this big unit with TONS of smaller drawers, but they are pricier.

Now, the craftsman would offer shallower drawers and deeper drawers while the Ikea one are all about the same size, but you can fit smaller containers inside for organization too. If I have room for it downstairs in our big switchover, I'm getting a third unit!

Anyway... not trying to hijack the thread - just loving thinking about other ways to organize. Now I know why my MIL's house is always in perfect order. She has NO HOBBIES. She doesn't do ANYTHING in her apt. at all. No wonder it stays pristine. In our house with two kids, a cat, a husband really into books and music and me into cooking, sewing, and some hand crafts, we have so much STUFF that needs constant attention. If we stopped all that "stuff" we would have a tidy home too. Instead, we always have piles of books waiting to be put away. Piles of CDs to be put away and 1/2 done sewing projects too. Let's not even go into the piles and piles of too small baby clothes and pre-teen clothes I've accumulated in the last 6 months with hopes of selling it on ebay! Ugh!

Gosh! What a ingenious idea to use a tool trolley for storing the stuff. I work in a tooling company and there are a few tool trolleys in the office. Now I feel like 'stealing' all the trolleys home. icon_twisted.gif

I will save this thread for my future room in the basement for cakes. You have done an awesome job of organizing. I am a bit of an organizer myself and have hijacked the laundry room for cakes, I have filled the closet with the plastic rubbermaid drawer sets, 5 in all, and bins etc. But an organized area, that I won't have to use for other purposes would be great, and I am looking forward to finishing the basement!
I agree with berryblondeboys a house that is too pristine is void of "life".
