Well I posted this question about 9 hours ago, I came to the computer to see what wonderful answers there were and the question disappeared off the forums, unless I just can't see.

I am switching from Crisco to Sweetex and would like to know if there is any measuring difference. I thought I read somewhere that with Sweetex, you don't use as much as you would crisco. any opinions?

I hope this doesn't disappear also!!! I am making it in the morning.

I know it makes a difference in taste. There is less of a greasy taste to it, but I'm not sure about the measurement, so here is a little bump for you. icon_biggrin.gif

Hey, I'm up too and I'm in Michigan! Kidding-I use a generic brand of hi-ratio with the same measurements and I didn't get a greasy taste at all. In fact, it was the best icing that I had ever produced. I'm rolling now icon_biggrin.gif.

I use Sweetex and I use it cup for cup. I am sure it is a personal preference though. One time I did try using less and I didn't care for the icing. The icing was sweeter and had a heavy crust. Maybe I should have added more liquid, I don't know.

Thanks so much for everyone's input. I will try the same measurements and see what happens.

shoup_family, I buy so many generic and "best price" items that I am going to splurge on this. I have a problem with generic shortening, don't ask my why, I guess I am anal with that one item. I bought the Sweetex, 50lbs for $49 and change. The 6lb crisco at Costco is $5.59. The sweetex in a bit higher.
I was born and raised in a bakery and there was always Sweetex and I think it is a bit of getting back to my roots.

Jan, thank you so much, I searched and searched to no avail. Now I know how to "find myself"!!!

Also, if you're on the home page, there is a tab that says "my forum posts" you can look there too. icon_smile.gif

Good luck, cakequeen50. I hope everything works out for you.

I have read that you can use about a 1/2c less than you would use in Crisco but I have used it cup for cup love the way my icing turns out!
