I thought this part would be easy but I'm having a difficult time! lol. How do you make the mold for a dolls face? My daughter's birthday is in 2 weeks and I want to make some fairies for her but I can't seem to get the gumpaste mold to work out. Do I need to roll it really thin then press onto the dolls face? And if so, how do keep from getting your finger prints all over it?

I would roll a nice fat ball of it and set it down on a piece of wax paper and then smoosh the dolls face into the ball flatening it.......but don't push so hard so that the nose or anything of the doll goes through, you want to capture the impression not push the doll's face all the way through the gumpaste. Then you don't have to touch the gumpaste at all or move it.....leave it on the wax paper to dry.....i would probably try to peel it off the wax paper when it has stiffened enough to ensure it comes off and then let it continue to harden.

yep that is the way i do it too. just make sure gumpaste is not sticky or doll wet. gently push the face in the ball. i also always make dolls face a little with icingsugar so it wouldn't stick to the gumpaste.

I tried that way first but I noticed in the article about making the fairies, it looks like you should be able to see the impression of the dolls face on the other side of the mold but when I do it, I never can get that impression on the opposite side. lol

WHY are you guys going trough so much trouble? you can order CREATE A MOLD from Beryls!!

you melt it in the microwave...you may have to pull the dolls head off the torso ( just don't let your little see you do this..lol)

Make a foil collar around the head so only the FACE shows...( like the dog cones from the vet ) pour the CREATE A MOLD and let it sit for about 60 min and when it sets..it's fexlible enough to pull right off.

you get all the details from the face!

then when you're done..you just throw it back in the jar and micro again to melt it and you can reuse it!

As a matter of fact, I'm going to call her now and ask her to send me some and will do a tutorial that I will post!

That was a great pic-torial..lol...but you still have to wait for the gumpaste mold to hardern, which may take a few days!

The create a mold, I have set right by an airconditioner and have used it like in 10 minutes!!

it's really GREAT!! Love the stuff!!! you can make a mold from anything!

How many times can you nuke the mold stuff and re-use? I wanted to order a pearl mold but I ordered some "make your own mold" but I don't think you can re-use it. It would be nice to be able to re-use i don't want to have a bunch of molds around to collect dust.

as long as you keep it clean...in other words, when you're done making your mold, wipe it off with a damp cloth and let it dry..don't wash it.

you then put it back into it's containner and use it over and over again.

Just melt it..and use it..

That's what is so good about this stuff...you get your monies worth and don't have tons of those blue molds hanging around!

It's even organic..made from algae!

after a while I do dump them out, just for my own piece of mind, also the container is a hard plastic container that after awhile, looks nasty.

You would melt this as you melt chocolate in the microwave, taking care not to over heat it..

Thanks everyone so very much! LOL, I started out doing it right but just didn't realize it! Guess it shows that I'm new at this.

Liis, thanks for your attachment, it showed me that I WAS doing it right! I guess I was trying to make it more difficult than it needs to be. I started out doing it just like you showed but then wasn't sure about it so I tried doing it by rolling out the gumpaste and pressing it on dolls face. (didn't work) So, thanks again for your help!

RisqueBusiness, thanks for the heads up on the Create A Mold! I believe it will come in handy for future projects.
