I read on one blog where the poster transported the ice cream cone cupcakes stuck inside upside/down fruit and nut cups (cut an X on the bottom of fruit and nut cups before inserting the ice cream cones). They look very stable from the pictures I saw.

I have carried them before using a cake pan with double thickness of foil over the top of it, and cut x's in the foil to hold the cones. Make the x's smaller than the cones so when you insert the cone it stretches a little bit to the right size, that way they're in there pretty snug.

I did ice cream cone cupcakes (in my pictures) and I used a mailing box wrapped in wrapping paper with x's cut out in the top. If you were transporting them you could put the mailing box in a larger cake box with a lid. That way they wouldn't move around and they would be covered. HTH.

I read somewhere on Cake Central that someone used egg cartons - I never tried it but it sounds like it might work! I don't remember if they had to cut holes in it or not - try it out and see. Good luck!
