Colette Peters uses it for coating cakes - she calls it 'marzifon.' As you can make flowers out of fondant and marzipan I see no reason why you couldn't make flowers out of them mixed together. Marzipan has a coarser grain and you wouldn't get such fine results and you'd need to make chunky flowers like roses. Let us know how you get on!

Well, I haven't done it, but I suppose you could. My thought is that you wouldn't get the same results.

You mix gumpaste with fondant to get the fondant to be stiffer and dry faster/harder.

If you mix fondant and marzipan, you get an almond flavored fondant, but no change in drying and little change in consistency.

If you mix marzipan with gumpaste, I think you'll get a gumpaste that will not dry well at all because of the almond oil in the marzipan. I think the oil might retard the drying of the gumpaste. Gumpaste doesn't taste as good as fondant, so I guess you'd get better tasting gumpaste, at the very least. I could be wrong on this one, but the logic seems to follow.

Many European decorators use straight marzipan to make flowers and decorations and the results are gorgeous. The flowers on the cover of "Pretty Party Cakes" by Peggy Porshen are marzipan and they're lovely.

gumpaste is easy to make from scratch - would that solve the problem of trying to find it?

In Australia we use marzipan to make fruits at Christmas time and usually add flavourings to go wth the fruits. You can make anything you like with marzipan as well as fondant and gumpaste. When I make marzipan and haven't done so for a long time we don't use almond oil but almond meal to flavour. Not everyone likes marzipan so it is not really used too much here in Australia anymore. Of Course its usually a preferance thing.

You could always try it and maybe start a new fashion.

If it was me I would make them both up and then combine them. But I guess you could try putting the gumpaste powder in the marzipan, not sure if it would work or not.
