What Do You Use For Cakes (Boxed Or Homemade)?

When decorating your cakes, what do you find easier to work with, boxed variety or homemade from scratch?
It just depends on what cake flavor I'm doing. I know if it's a white cake its going to come from a box and I"ll doctor it with a box of pudding and an extra egg. I have yet to find a white cake that I REALLY like. I will not give up! All the other flavors are from scratch.
I think it's an individual thing and what your use to doing. I've tasted some scrach cakes that were dreadful and I've tasted some boxed cakes that were also dreadful.....it's up to you and what your comfortable doing!
Isnt that like asking a woman her age? lol
I use box mixes. I get so many compliments I'm afraid to change anything.
That is the exact reason I'm having a hard time with finding a white cake recipe. The one I make is a store brand.....and I don't have to add anything to it! Everyone loves it.......I HATE IT! I only hate it because I didn't "make it". I mix it......and I hate it.....
I've always been a scratch baker. Around here I nicknamed that silly box cake "my pride in a box"......it's only like 76 cents too!!!!
I found the most wonderful white cake recipe. Use DH white classic cake mix, 3 eggs, 1 cup milk, 1 stick butter, 6 oz. white chocolate. The best white cake i ever tasted.
I use a DH mix for most cakes people go on and on about how wonderful and I must have a secret recipe so much better than a bakery or a mix from home.... so heck I will just keep using my secret DH cake mix with no additions..... I will make a carrot cake from scratch
Even a retired baker asked me and said it must be an old family recipe I said yes Duncan Hines family he said well keep using it couldn't taste better or be more moist...
