It really depends on your area....

I was trying to get $8-$10/hour for my work if I could. But then I got a p/t job doing cakes making $15/hour at a catering place so... for some of my more in-depth projects I like to try to get that, but I only usually get that if the servings are more because the larger the cake, the larger the profit.

Your work is really nice! I'd look around your area and see what the going wage is for an upscale baker.

I'm the WORST about giving myself enough credit to charge enough for cakes....so I'm not good to answer this question...BUT I did want you to know your cakes look GREAT! You have such beautiful crisp edges..I'm jealous! Keep up the good work and give yourself a good hourly rate. icon_smile.gif

I've never gone in and computed what I really make - cause its probably not that pretty - but when I am pricing gumpaste work or deciding just how much more I am gonna charge for some cake's scrollwork or whatever... I price myself at $25 an hour.

Thanks for the links to the other threads! And I need to put Cake Boss into my business plan!

Wow. It's so hard to see numbers like that. I get $35-40 an hour for other work I do, and I think cake decorating requires a lot more talent, work and expertise than some of those things. In my networking group, people charge $60 - $80 an hour for things like organizing, bookkeeping, computer training, massage, etc. But this is Los Angeles. And this is cake. You've got to stay in-line with rates in your area...
