Well, this is supposed to be my first paid cake, and so far it is making me want to quit! The lady I am doing the cake for pretty much said, do whatever you want, as long as it has something to do with Holland.
It is supposed to be a bridal shower cake, and so I was going to do a white cake with gumpaste tulips. Well, I gave that a try, and apparently making tulips is not my thing. At least, not without the tulip cutter.
So then my mom gave me the brillant idea of doing a windmill cake. I had it all drawn out as to how I was going to do it. I made a door and two windows out of gumpaste, and last night I made the windmill blades.
This morning, the blades broke. I will attach a picture so maybe someone can tell me if this is salvagable.
If it is not, I am going to have to carve a clog out of cake, and stick some (silk) tulips in where the foot would go. It was orignally one of the lady's ideas, but I thought a clog was not very bridal shower-ish.
Any help is appreciated!

could you use a popsicle stick behind the broken sail maybe? Colour it brown and I bet no-one would notice! Failing that, a clog is a good idea, clogs, windmills, tulips, Fresian cows, heck, they're all stereotypical Dutch things! Or how about a round cake done as a round cheese, with a yellow or red rind made from fondant, with a piece cut out to reveal the 'holes'? An idea!

If the blades are going to be free-standing I might be hesitant to use it, but if you attach them flat against the front of the cake, you could probably just line it up together, cover over the crack with matching buttercream, and make sure to "glue" both pieces securely to the front of your windmill. Did you say in another post that your windmill was square?(would have a flat front to support the blades directly on?)
Otherwise, you could use floral wire to form the outline of the blades, cover it in muslin and have very lightweight (though not edible) blades. (real windmills have fabric sails, anyway) Any visible wire (like in the center) you could cover in brown buttercream or gumpaste.

I am going to try and carve it out of 6" round cakes, so the blades would be free standing. The hole in the middle is for a lollipop stick, which I am going to anchor through the middle of the cake....hopefully.
Thanks for the fabric idea, if I cannot get these back together maybe I will try that.
