I Think I'm Going To Toss My Cookies!!!

Well I had the bright idea of making my daughter and a couple of the neighborhood girls a Easter basket cookie bouquet.
WHY OH WHY can't I get my cookies to stay on the stick?? I can't touch one of those suckers and they fall right off the stick!! I have had just one heck of a time with them!!! It's gone from each girl having 5 cookies a piece to each just having 3.
Anybody got some tips on how I can keep 'em on that darn stick?? Or these will be the first and last cookie bouquets for me!! Please HELP!!!

Oh don't give up!! Try again!! It may have been the recipe that you used. Some aren't for cut outs. Which recipe did you use? They just sound like they may have been too soft.
It depends on what kind of cookie, how big, and how you are using the stick.
rolled cookies, rolled fairly thin-put the stick in before baking-let them cool completely before touching the stick.
other cookies can be done the same way. If the cookie is too thin, you can use a piece of extra dough, rolled thin and slightly moist to support the stick on the back of the cookie (before baking)
After baking, some people have used a smear of white chocolate to hold the stick. use a generous amount, and let is set completely (they can be refrigerated to speed the set).
If the cookes are quite large, you can use the flat popsicle style sticks to support the heavier cookie.
Thanks charlieinMO....I used the No Fail recipe. ....but I did cut the recipe in half so I might have messed up on that part?? I even tried to glue it back on the stick with royal and failed at that also.

This happened to me and my cookies. This is what I learned
1.) make sure to roll your cookies out thick enough
2.) adjust baking time for the thickness of the cookies
my sticks did not hold the cookie because my cookies were too thin. I was able to fix this by using candy melts and on the back side of the cookie I made a square of chocolate covering where the stick was. The reinforced the cookies and prevented them from breaking. So the cookies can be saved. Good Luck

Let us know how it turns out. I usually roll mine out, turn over (though I don't know why this is just what I do ) lay the stick down and press a little, then I add a piece of dough on top of the stick. I agree with JoAnnB you have to let them cool on the cookie sheet before you touch them!! I had to use the candy melts that was mentioned before and it does work. Hang in there!

Sorry Denise, I was in the kitchen making gumpaste roses. Did you take a look at the mini-how-to I did? That might help you some. My cookies are about 4-5 inches and I have no problems getting them to stay on the stick. Just remember to let them sit on the cookie sheet for about 5 minutes after taking them out of the oven. Then transfer them to a cooling rack using a spatula.

Well...I just delivered the cookie bouquets to the little girls down the road. They loved them so much but the oldest girl sat her's on the table then OOPS there went a cookie hitting the floor!! You could have picked me up off the floor too!! She was really very sweet about it though....so I told them I'll make them another but I'll make sure this time that I do them right!!

The best way to get it to stay on the stick is also to have as much of the stick in the cookie as you can. I burry the stick so it is almost poking out the top of the uncooked cookie. The cookie gets bigger when they cook so it won't poke out when it cooks. This always works for me. Good luck!!!!
I do the same thing, make mine really thick (more than 1/4") and then push the stick in until it's almost at the top of the cookie. I used cookie sticks on about half and then regular candy pop sticks on the other and had no problem, so far!! Mine are about 3" tall too. I double checked before I baked them that the stick wasn't sticking out the back by flipping them over and then if they were, I used some extra dough to patch that up. So far I haven't had to use anything to keep them on the stick, but this is my first batch of cookies for a cookie bouquet, so I'm not exactly experienced here!! Oh, I used the No Fail Sugar Cookie recipe too. Love that butter!!
