I noticed the buckets of icing sitting in the back of our cookie place in the mall.. I absolutely love this stuff. I've been to the site and would love to order some but it looks like they only allow businesses to order.. Heck, I just want to order the icing and use it for family and friends.. Better yet just eat it and not put it on a cake.. Anyway, does anyone know is there is anywhere else you can buy this stuff?

Thanks,
Dawn

Have you asked the cookie place to order a bucket for you next time they order for them?

Wal-Mart used to order me a case of the plastic domes and cardboards when they placed a bakery order for them. They even charged me what they pay for them! I had a good thing going there.....then we moved.

You might at least ask if they will do that for you. Good luck!

Some food lion stores use dawn. If you have one near you give them a call. they may sell you a bucket. I work for Foodlion (but my store uses brill) and the cost for them is about 27.00 for a 35lb bucket a fair price would be about $45.00

I buy But-R-Creme from Sam's club........though it says wal-mart not Dawn.....wonder if its the same stuff??? I pay $26 for a 28 lb. bucket........much cheaper than I can make frosting for and it's yummy and so much time is saved when I'm making cakes since I don't have to figure out how much icing to make, dirty all the dishes necessary to make it, and then wonder if I'm going to have to store leftovers and when can I get them used up??? So much easier!

Do you buy that in the bakery part? I wonder if it is the same?

I've never heard of Dawn But-R-Creme. What's it like? Is there anything to compare it to?

I'm wondering the same thing...I've tried to buy from Sam's and they won't do it here. I've asked in the bakery. Is it somewhere else in the store, because the lady in the bakery looked at me like I was crazy!

Couldn't agree with you more!! I just discovered the Sam's club icing. What a time saver and I love this stuff!!! thumbs_up.gif

Ask for the manager and tell her you would like to buy a bucket of their buttercream icing. It's already barcoded and priced.

a 28# tub? do you bake professionally or as a hobby? If only as a hobby (for friends and family) how in the wolrd do you use all that icing before it goes bad? What is the shelf life of it? I would love to buy it also but it would take me a while to use it all? any storage suggestions?

This might be an incredibly stupid question.....but, do you have to refridgerate that big bucket of frosting after you open it?

I use a similar product, Rich's Bettercreme. I get it at a foodservice distributor. I do not have to have an account with them. I pay just slightly more than what I would pay if I had an account, which is still almost wholesale. The only stipulation is that I call ahead a couple hours to order it, and then I have to go right down to their docks to pick it up and pay cash. Most distributors will do this for you as long as it's only one or two items you are getting. Sysco, Reinhart, ect.

As far as refrigeration- the big buckets can stay in the freezer. I scoop out what I need, and put saran over the rest pushed down tight right to the icing. It lasts forever that way! You can keep it in the fridge, but you have to use it within a month then. It does not crust, this is the whipped icing you get on grocery stores cakes.

I only do it as a hobby for friends and family and I'm on my second tub since Dec. when I moved to ohio........I don't know how I managed to use it all up but I did and I'm already a third of the way through my second bucket. I go right to the bakery in Sam's Club and ask them for a bucket of buttercream and they print out a bar code with a price and stick it on top and say have a nice day!! They also told me it needs NO refrigeration the bucket says it should be kept between 70-80 degrees and at Sam's they said it would last 6 months on the shelf and longer if I wanted to refrigerate or freeze it. I don't feel like i make THAT many cakes really........but I didn't have any trouble using it up!

My Sam's Club just started carrying it on the shelf for customers to buy. I have been making all of my buttercream myself, but when I'm doing 10-15 cakes in a week, plus working 40 hours at a regular job, its too time consuming. I just went and got 2, 5 gal. buckets of Sam's But-R-Creme. It taste great, very comparable to what I make at home, a little sweeter tasting, but I can deal with that, considering I'm not slaving over a mixer for hours making 5 gallons myself!!!

I don't think I saw this answer above, but just incase I'm sorry if I'm repeating anything

Yes the Wal-mart But-R-Creme that you can get from Sam's club is Dawn's But-R-Creme. About 4 years ago Wal-mart had them change all of the labeling so it now has wal-mart on it instead of the brand name. But for years before it always said Dawn. It is the standard buttercreme used on cakes at wal-mart and sam's.

I just bought some at Sam's yesterday because I couldn't find hi-ratio shortening ANYWHERE, and I need an icing that can stand Texas heat this weekend.

I might just use it straight this time since it's an outdoor party, but I was considering in the future using half But-R-Cream and half real butter buttercream that I make, mixing them together. Has anyone ever tried this?

I love the butter taste, but I sometimes need more stability.

Well, I first asked if they could sell me any high-ration, and they looked at me like I was weird. icon_smile.gif

Once we got to talking I decided to try the But-R-Cream, and I liked the taste just fine. I still like all butter buttercream the best, but it won't taste very good sitting in a puddle on the grass on 90-degree weather.

They had the 28-lb. bucket of icing already labeled for sale, so I guess it's not that unusual for people to buy it.

Sams BUTTERcream will crust and does not need to be kept in the fridge, although it can be frozen.
The BETTERcream will not crust, and it needs to be kept in the fridge or freezer.

My local cake decorating store sells this stuff and I bought a small container to try and it was NASTY! It was the worst icing I ever put in my mouth. That certainly answered my question as to whether I could ever use it in a pinch. Guess I'll just go on making my own all the time.
