I made a Racecar cake lastnight, and after I iced the sides of the cake I started to notice that there was a grease stain on the cake board along the sides of the cake. It looks like it is the crisco coming out of the icing. This is not pretty at all, and just looks very bad!!!!! Does anybody have a solution to this? USA

Did you cover the board with anything? If it's only cardboard, it will run. You can use foil to cover the board. Also, you can wrap it with gift wrap and then cover that with contact paper. The contact paper won't absorb the icing.

Definitely! There are boards made that have a waxy film over the top and also some that come with a foil finish on it. Those you won't have a problem with the grease spots. But if it is just plain cardboard, you will have this problem.

Oh sure, no problem! I seem to learn something everyday from all of these talented decorators on CC Trial and error just means more cake to eat!!

I have another quick question if you don't mind?

I was making my first racecar cake one night and as I was taking it out of the pan I was holding it with my other had and it just broke into 3 pieces, What a mess, but oh well, I knew better when I made this last one I did. Anyway.....I have seen some people on here talking about recipes that involve cake scraps...ie...Cake balls, or something like that. Have you seen these or know what I'm talking about? USA

I belive there are some recipes for it on here and if you do a search in the forums, there are definitely some posts about it. I've done it and mine are pretty simple compared to what other people add to it. I blend the cake scraps with a little buttercream icing (acts as a binding agent). Once it's all mixed, I form them into balls and put them in the freezer. While they are still frozen, I dip them in chocolate. A lot of people use the flavored coffee creamers, candy oils and stuff like that. I'm sure I saw someone post that they use Grand Marnier. Anything is possible. You mainly need something wet to mix with the cake to bind it all together. I'll see if I can pull up those threads.
