Yesterday I was working on my oldest daughters birthday cake, also doing a couple small practice cakes to have . I used the book cake pan so I could put a poem she had written on it. I decided it was to long to try to pipe it on the cake, I don't have the edible markers (that's on the list for monday). So the night before I rolled out a very thin sheet of mmf and used a paint brush and food color to write out the poem(took 3 hours), turned out great, set it on a cookie sheet along with a bookmark and pencil I had made. Back to yesterday, i'm frosting cakes rolling mmf have 6 kid, brother, brother-in-law, mom and husband running around the house. Thought I better put the poem up before something happens to it, don't have a lot of room, but the oven was empty Well couple hours later DH asks what's for dinner. I go over turn the oven on and proceed to throw a something together, open the door to put it in , fondant does not bake well Here's the after shot, didn't get a before. As for the cake it turned out ok. |

I'm sorry. Sounds like you worked so hard. I feel for you. I am always trying to hide stuff so no one breaks it, too. I can usually put it one top of my cabinets. |

Ooohhhhh.....I feel your pain!
I baked two white cakes last night. When I started cleaning up, I noticed my bowl of whipped egg whites still on the counter!! I pulled the cakes out of the oven (cooked for only 2 minutes), dumped the batter back in the bowl, folded in the egg whites, put the batter back in the pans and into the oven. They look OK; we'll see. When my DH heard me cuss, he asked what was wrong. I just said that I forgot to do something. He was too sweet to push for details.
When I was growing up, my sister put a plastic bowl of pancake batter on the back stove burner (electric stove), then turned on the front burner, or so she thought. You can guess the rest!
Rest assured that you are in good company! |

Yikes! Well, we don't have to wonder what happens to fondant if you cook it. I'm sorry. I too, have to stick things here, there and everywhere. But the cake turned out great! |

OOPS! Well, at least the final cake still turned out well! I think we've all done something like that before! I left a newspaper in the oven - we were trying to dry it out from the rain and forgot about it. Later, I turned on the oven for dinner - probably lucky we didn't burn down the kitchen!!! Needless to say, I don't use the oven except for cooking now! |

A while back I was trying to make some MMF shapes to put on a fondant cake. I had painted them with food coloring but it would not dry so I heated the oven briefly and put in the pan. Just fine the first time, but the second I forgot to turn off the oven. Think what happens to marshamallows on the fire...then think of wet painted marshamallows on a fire. I had a gigantic sticky mess that no way resembeled the shapes I had started with. Had to totallly start again! |

I always put a sticky on the stove to remind me that there is something in the oven. Can't tell you how many times I've done the same thing as you!!! |
