Hi,

I have a bride who would like her wedding cake to resemble her dress. Question is how do I make or where do I buy edible crystals and/or diamonds. I've seen the 'coarse sugar sprinkles' but those would not be large enough I don't think.

Thanks
Joanne

You can buy edible jewels - they are fairly large though at 1/2 to 1 inch in diameter. There are molds you can buy to make smaller jewels but I have been told they are very difficult to make as it is hard to get the hot syrup into the tiny molds.
I just went through this for a cake I wanted to make but couldn't get any in the size I needed so have come up with a new plan. Here is the link for the jewels if you want it. These are top quality.

I had an idea when I was making a crown cake for my husbands work. If you have the molds you can just place a candy in them...think jolly ranchers .. and place them in the oven. then you dont have to worry about pouring hot lava into small molds. the candy should soften as it heats and when it cools it should take on the look of the mold. At least that is the theory. I dont know how well this would work but I am planning on trying this for my next cake. icon_biggrin.gif

Thanks everyone for your suggestions! I think I'm just going to see how rock candy works, I know i've seen it in white/clear.
