I made that perfect batch of fondant late one night and put it aside to use the next day.
Started working with the fondant at 7:00 am the next morning. It was rock hard because we've had a cold snap, so I microwaved it and started kneading. It all seemed so perfect and then I rolled it out and saw huge, cavern-like cracks! Okay, so I added a little water and voila! It seemed perfect again, but again, cracks on the next roll out...this happened 5 more time - by now it was after 9:00!
For the life of me I couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong.
Then my hubby comes up and casually asks, "Are you rolling that out directly onto the granite?" (We just recently got granite counter tops. I was sooooo excited because it's even, while the tile we had before was impossible to work on.)
"Yes," I said kinda frustrated.
"Well, that's porous you know. It's probably been sucking all the moisture out of your fondant."
Boy, was I
I rolled out the fondant on my Wilton mat, and that did the trick! No more cracks.
Lessons learned:
1. NOT okay to roll fondant directly onto granite.
2. My hubby IS right on occasion!

You just gotta give those husbands credit sometimes! They can see things from angles we don't even think about! Thanks for the tip as I am dying to get granite- I will have to remember this!

we must violate the no picture rule !! a husband that knows something I got to see what that looks like !! just kidding ....
I would have never known that ... when my friend and I first started working MMF we had all kinds of problems ..I don't remember if we rolled directly on to the granite .....hummmm!!! ... in any case good info to have
