I saw these neat turntables from Wilton that tilt. Are they worth the $40 and how useful are they? It looks like it would make the job a bit easier. Also, was wondering about a pasta machine for flattening gumpaste. Is this something that is worth investing in?
I have both.
The tilting turn table, I don't like. It wobbles and is unstable. If you love to do sting work, it might be worth it for you, but if not, get something a little more stable. (There have been several threads about this paricular turn table.)
The pasta machine I love! It makes working with fondant and gumpaste easier and faster, and you always get an even thickness on what your working on.
I can't answer about the turntable.
But for the pasta machine, i use one all the time, I use it for my gumpaste and smaller fondant pieces. I cover all my cookies with fondant and to keep them uniform i use a pasta machine. I also use it when making fondant decorations for a cake, cause it is the only way for me to keep the thickness uniform.
As far as worth investing in, it really depends on what you are doing. For me it was worth the investment. I have a tabletop model with a motor. I do like the one that attaches to the KA but had already purchased the other before finding the KA model.
Not sure about the pasta machine. I bought a cheap one that is actually for clay and it works pretty good.
A for sure NO to the tilt turn table. It is very unstable and I have had a few cakes slide right off of it even with the no slip top it has.
Thanks ya"ll. You just saved me money. I'll go get that pasta machine today! Oh the fun ahead. I just can't wait. I love this stuff.
