Hi everyone! We all know how great it is to receive comments on our photos, but recently lots have been overlooked and uncommented on. I know it can be difficult to view every cake uploaded here (especially during peak posting times when a photo may be bumped off the main page in seconds!!!). The gallery supporters are trying to clear the backlog of photos - but it would really help us out if the general population would leave a comment on cakes they like - especially if you save it to your favourite photos - lots of the uncommented photos are saved in people's favourites, and that to me is really sad icon_sad.gif . It only takes a few seconds to make a comment, not much longer than it does to save it thumbs_up.gif ! So, please don't let so many talented cake decorators get ignored - thanks everyone, this is a great community thumbs_up.gificon_biggrin.gif

Wow, I was just thinking about that. I did a cake that I thought was pretty good, and had very few comments. Thought maybe it's not as good as I thought (and it still may not be LOL). I know for me the comments really mean a lot. Thanks for this post.

I agree!! This just happened to me with my last 2 cakes....not a lot of views or comments & I was hoping to get a bit of feedback. But I think I uploaded them at a peak time, because they did get bumped of the main page within seconds....either that or the cakes just weren't as exciting as I thought they were!! icon_lol.gif Oh well!

That is so true! As a fairly new decorator, every comment is that extra boost of encouragement!

Maybe, I'm the only one, but I've been having trouble viewing photos this past week. There have been several times when I have just given up on looking and logged out. Maybe, this is happening to others and might explain the lack of comments?

I agree! I love receiving and leaving comments on cakes but sometimes when there is something like 10 pages of uncommented photos it's a little overwhelming.

You are not alone, I have had the same problem.

I do my best to leave a few short comments each time I come in, but I have to say...the sheer volume you are experiencing may be part of the problem. There are so many more each time I caome in I never get to view them all.

I agree too, one of the things that I look forward to when I finish a cake is uploading it on here to see what other's think. It's nice to get feedback from someone other than my family-they're always biased. When I don't get any response I think maybe I did something wrong. Maybe if we all set a number and try to comment on that many cakes each day??

I have to agree with mitsel8, I have a very hard time with the photos loading, it either takes forever or I get kicked out, I don't have that problem with any other site so I don't know what's going on. I do try to comment on all the cakes I see that I like though.

I'm glad you said that, I have found several I wanted to comment on but there was no way to do this (the poster didn't arrange for comments to be made.) Personally all the cakes are awesome and everyone is to be congratulated!

I am having the same problems (with pictures loading) I figure its because this wonderful site has become so darn popular.....I too love comments but have noticed that lately I haven't gotten too many...and I try to ALWAYS comment if I am saving the cake into my favorites.

i stopped leaving comments because it was posted in an earlier post that it was disappointing to see where people just used one or two words. i'm learning here and there are a lot of times the only thing that comes into my mind is "wowwww". i mean some of the cakes are just so amazing to me that i just put "wowwww"....but i really do mean it in a good way and from the bottom of my heart.

i have the same problem with loading pictures, but maybe it's because there are SO many people who are trying to view them at the same time? and yes! keep the comments flowing! ive only made one cake so far and only one comment but that one comment made me feel real good! imagion if i had 2!! LOL

Thank you bonjovibabe for posting this topic!!!! As a Gallery Supporter, I also am trying very hard on a daily basis to view AND COMMENT on the beautiful cakes posted.

Whether your new to CC or have been here for awhile, encouraging words are always appreciated by everyone. The feeling of someone that shares your hobby likes one of your cakes, to me personally, is a fantastic feeling. I also can't wait when I've finished a cake to post it here and see what others think. The knowledge shared by the wonderful people here is truly a highlight to me some days thumbs_up.gif

I have declined to leave comments many times because the feeling I get is that even though people say "be honest" - the truth is they don't want honesty, only praise. I have seen some truly atrocious cakes with comments that made me question the viewer's eyesight or taste.

I know I'm not that great - I'm still learning. I do OK, and people pay me. But I know I could always stand improvement and I certainly wouldn't mind it if anyone gave me some constructive criticism. And when I see something and have a suggestion that might make it better - I'd love to be able to offer my advice without anyone taking offense to it.

I don't mean to go off on a rant - but I guess I'd be willing to leave comments when I feel it's ok to do so without anyone getting upset about it. (There are many times I never see anything wrong and would have left wonderful comments and praise - but the whole 'comment' thing just leaves a bad taste in mouth)

And to anyone reading this - I'd rather have someone be honest with me than simply pat me on the back to placate me. I just wish we were able to truly help others with advice instead of just giving pats on the back.

I'll get off my soapbox now.

I've been in a situation where I saw a fondant covered cake that could have been even better if the fondant were smooth. I sent a PM, rather than post a public comment, asking if the decorator wanted feedback. I didn't receive a reply, but is was a tactful way of offering without putting anyone on the spot. (I just wanted her to know how to get it smooth).

Another thing is that we don't see throught the same eyes. I have a cake posted that everyone seem to like and I hate it. LOL. You just don't know what other people see in their mind, and thus the comments "it's great" on stuff you think could use a little improvement. It's like the guy who goes shopping for shoes with his girlfriend and she sees 6 different shoes, and all he sees is 6 identical black pair.

You can give me honest feedback any time.

I love the pats on the back but I also agree with Brandi~It is surprisingly refreshing to recieve true constructive criticism! That kind of feed back can only help me get better and I know it is hard to critcize but I would rather it be done constructively than not at all and think that I'm all that because all I've gotten are nothing but praises. I really do want you guys to pick my work ( the little bit that there is yet!! LOL) apart. Like I said, that will only help me to improve.

I think the idea of a personal PM is a good one if your concerned about hurting someone's feelings, etc.
Good, constructive criticism is healthy and what a lot of us like. Since coming to CC my work has improved because of the positive feedback given to me by others. Not just because someone gave me a pat on the back, but because it encouraged me to try harder and hone in on my skills. Sometimes, people are just in need of a little nudge to accomplish something that they may have not been able to without the help of others. thumbs_up.gif

I think that many times, if people want advice, they will ask for it when posting their picture. Or say something like- your criticism/suggestions welcomed.

Someone's masterpiece may be someone else's "yikes!". I would never leave criticism on someone's pic unless they advertise that they want it. Otherwise, I assume they posted because they are proud of it...and its not my place to say, well, actually that's a pretty scary looking cake.

I have to admit that when I uploaded I expected to see comments on it either way. I really wanted to know what people thought. I was really disappointed that there have been so many views to my pics, but no comments. I felt bad more from no comments rather than I would have felt from criticism. I will be sure to ask for constructive criticism from now on on my pics.
