HELP!! I have some buttercream transfer questions. I read the article on BCT here, but have some additional questions.

What tip do you use to do the outline of the image?

Do you freeze in between colors?

How thick do you put the frosting in within the lines?

How do you get that frosting smooth without messing up your lines? Any special tools or tricks?

How do you get it on the cake without breaking it?

I am going to attempt this for a cake tomorrow and am SCARED to death!!

I love doing BCT so here is what I do:

I outline with a tip 2 or 3 then put in freezer to harden

I then use a bigger tip to fill in I usually start in one corner of a certain area and just start squeezing the icing up against the hardened outline so when I'm filling, I usually don't go thicker than the height of the outline so that the icing doesn't flow over. If you have lots of little areas then I use a smaller tip.

I don't freeze inbetween colors as the icing will usually crust some.

After I fill in an area I take my tip and kind of smoosh the icing around, I usually take a toothpick too to push the icing into the tiny corners. Then I usually pick up my plexiglass and lift it to see the transfer underneath. I usually stand right under a light too so I can see if I have any areas the light is coming through that I need to fill.

Once you've filled in everything I keep it in the freezer to really harden. I've even wrapped them and kept in freezer for 2 weeks. I did 2 Spongebob and Pablo from Backyardigans that are sitting in my freezer wrapped and waiting for the 2 cakes I'm doing for my sons parties next week.

The trick with FBCT is you don't take it out of the freezer until you are absolutely ready to put it on your cake. You have to work quickly, I take my transfers out of the freezer and immediately put on cake as it will begin to soften very quickly.

Hope this helps.

I'm planning to do my FBCT and would like to do it in advance and probably freeze it.
Just want to know the freezing technique....how do you wrap it? Do you put it in a ziplog bag or do u put in a air tight container and then put in a freezer???
Thanks
