I can remember seeing step by step instructions for making a Santa. I'm pretty sure it was made out of fondant. I can't remember if I found it on CC, but I'm thinking it was another site. Anyone out there see the instructions anywhere? Thanks for your help.
I just found the link I was talking about. Here it is if anyone is interested. The Santa was made from marzapan.

Thanks for the link. What a cute reindeer! I have never attempted to sculpt anything. I'm not much of an artist. It's very tempting. I might just have to try it!
There is a Santa there too, if you go to the top and click. I saved this link a long time ago because I thought they looked so funny. Actually it isn't hard to do these sorts of things but when you do them with fondant sometimes you need to reinforce with toothpicks or wooden dowels. Try some, at first you wonder how the heck it is ever going to look like anything, but when you are finished it will.

Thanks for the link Squirrelly they are adorable!
Price I like that link too! Haha, I guess I like critters and people that have a bit of a funny or silly look to them, so these are all great!

Just thought I would share a book I purchased today with everyone. It is called, "The Sculpey Way with Polymer Clay". I has some really cute Santas, Reindeer, Snowmen, Penguin and figures for some other holidays. It gives step by step instructions and I'm sure can be adapted to work with fondant. I have worked very little with fondant and know nothing about Gum Paste. Would the gum paste work any better for figures like these? Also, If I want to color the fondant or gum paste, am I better to color it when making it or can the color be kneaded in later? I will only need small amounts of some of the colors.

You can knead your colour into either gumpaste or fondant after it is made, you may need to add more powdered sugar to make up for the liquid you are adding in the colour, it tends to make the fondant or gumpaste too sticky without additional powdered sugar.
For certain sizes of things, you can get away with fondant although I tend to add at least a bit of Gum-tex powder to things to get them to set better. Depending on the size of things, you may need to add support in the form of dowels or toothpicks. Gumpaste will give you a more permanent figurine and will dry similar to a plaster or resin, much harder than fondant.

I always use uncooked skettie noodles. That away it makes them completely edible and you don't have to worry about if a kiddo gets ahold of one of them.
A note though, for anyone concidering doing the reindeer. I was informed/reminded after I did them the first time that they have short tails not long ones. ![]()
Also you want to use gumtext on the fondant. Santa's body flattens out, espeically since the fondant is soft after adding all the color to it. I'd make it with a oval body rather than a perfect circle. That away when it flattens out you will get closer to a round shape.

Heehee, Texas Sugar, you are a bit warped, I like that - reindeer making snow angels, how funny is that! Haha, I love the idea of giving animals human characteristics in their behaviour, too funny! Those are all adorable. So, do you make voices for all of your critters too?

Thanks!
Squirrelly, they take on their own personalites. But that's part of the fun. I did some royal icing penquins one year. They all had different personatlies and even a few of them got named. ![]()
No voices yet, but you never know what the future may hold. ![]()
Thanks!

Haha, I name things like this too and tend to have voices for them, but if you won't tell, I won't either, haha!
