I am looking to buy a turntable. I have looked at the Wilton site and see that they have two big ones to choose from. They are the same price, one tilted and one doesnt. One says its Professional.
Does anyone have these. Which do you think is better? Have ya had any problems with yours?
If I remember correctly, the Professional one that doesn't tilt is very heavy, almost like a cast iron base. Very solid. The other one, that tilts, is light weight and plastic. It has a rubber mat on the surface to keep the cake in place when the top is tilted. The tilt can be nice for working on the sides of the cake--basket weave, or string work. The heavy one you wouldn't want to have to take any where; the lighter one is more mobile. It just depends on what you are looking for or doing. HTH!
I just bought the professional one. Haven't use it yet. Somebody just ran a thread on these not long ago. So many bad complaints about the tilting one. So I stayed away from that one.
I have heard that the tilted one will periodically dump your cake! You can do a search in the forums on tilted cake stand, and see what others have said about it. fyi
I bought a wilton one, lightweight, non-tilting and I do like the spinning ability on it for working around my cake.. I do wish it tilted though, but I found it on clearance at a local walmart for $5 so I wasn't going to complain. I would definitely go for tilting especially if you do a lot of upper seam and top work...
as for the heaviness.. one of them and I also believe it is the professional is SUPER heavy, so just keep in mind storage on that one. Good luck!
Ateco all the way! I have the Wilton one but dropped in the parking ramp at where I used to work. It was never really level anyway!
i heard the Wilton tilting turntable is pretty flimsy and the best buy is actually the Ateco revolving cake stand which runs for about $20. i've been looking around for a good deal online. can't find a local store that carries it.
Personally I prefer Wilton's two cheaper turntables. I've used both and like them.
Why spend $50 when you can spend less than $15 on something that works fine. Save that money for something else.
I agree..skip the Wilton Tilting Turntable, it is a piece of junk. It does dump your cakes, and the top doesn't sit level so it always looks like your cake is crooked. I use the cheapo $15 Wilton turntable, and it is a good quality product, especially for the price (see if you can get it with a coupon at Michael's or Joann's!). I will be selling the tilting one at my next garage sale.
I dumped a cake on the Wilton tilt one. It's not durable at all--must be all that pastic! Plus, it wobbles a bit. I'm shopping for a good metal one now.
For those of you that use the cheapie Wilton turntable, how do you do stuff that requires a tilt? Right now, I put some non slip shelf liner under the cake and then roll some up under one side of the turntable to tilt it, but sometimes I worry that my cake will fall off...any other solutions??
I started out with the $7.99 one from Michaels (see attached). I thought I needed a more professional I now have the tilted one, the VERY heavy metal one and I had the plastic wilton one that was approx 6 inch tall that I dropped and broke. I have gone back to the $7.99 one and am going to purchase another. It turns very easily and if you want it higher you can place it on something the height you want. I love them!
I've had the Wilton tilting one for 2 years now and have never had a problem with it. It is level and I've not had any cakes dumped so I'm very happy with it.
I just got the Wilton Professional Turntable. I've used it once and really like it. It turns easily and smooth. Yes it is very heavy, but I like that because it would take alot to make it tip over.

Ditto. I have the professional Wilton one but mine doesn't sit level either. I use to work in a bakery and use the Ateco ones and I miss them so much, they turn so much easier than any I have tried and are pretty durrable. The Ateco one is going to be my next investment.
I started out with the Wilton one (non-tilting). That worked fine until I bought the Bakers Craft professional one. WOW! What an incredible difference! It spins like you wouldn't believe! I don't even use my other one anymore unless I am icing 2 cakes at once (and then I usually just switch the cakes. It is definately worth the investment!
We just had a discussion about turntables about a week ago, I'll see if I can find it. But the majority of those of us who posted seemed to agree that the reversible turtable from Country Kitchen Sweet Arts is one of the best made. It will hold a quarter sheet cake easily on the rectangular side, or larger if your cake board is sturdy enough to hold the weight. And if you flip it over to the round side it will hold up to an 18" round cake if the board is sturdy.

I had the cheap Wilton one for years and loved it, bought the new tilt one last year with the Michael's 40% off coupon, needless to say I used it twice . The second time I almost lost a half sheet cake on the ground at 11pm I'm still wanting to write Wiltion and tell them what a waste it was even at 40% off. I would not suggest getting that one for sure. Let us know if you have luck with another. I need a good one but don't know what to buy myself................

I got one of these turntables for Christmas (I asked for it). I LOVE it! Won't go back to my other one. Spins very smoothly and I love that it has both the round and rectangular sides. Worth every penny (roughly $50).
I did a lot of research before I bought mine, and I bought a Ateco with the cast iron stand. Bought it from The Knife Merchant. I really enjoy using it.
Thanks everyone for your opinions. So glad i asked. I will be looking into all the other ones. Hubby says i can buy what i need to get cake business going so i am looking for good, reliable and cost reasonable items.
Thanks again
I'm glad you asked too TinaJoy07! I have the Wilton cheapie one and the tilting one. Haven't had a problem with the tilting one...but have noticed that it does wobble. I LOVE the looks of the one that ShirleyW posted! I had no idea they made turntables like that! I'm ordering one!
