This recipe was made from trial and error. I made two mixtures of buttercream. One with salted butter which was too buttery (salty) and one with unsalted butter which was still too sweet. So I combined the two and it became the best buttercream Ive ever tasted. I use this recipe for all of my cake orders and it is a hit every time!!!
Buttercream Dream
Ingredients
1 stick butter (unsalted)
1 stick butter (salted)
1 cup shortening
2lb bag of confectioners sugar
3 teaspoons clear vanilla extract
5-6 tablespoons of milk (cold)
Instructions
Cream butter and shortening. Add clear vanilla extract then add confectioners sugar. Allow confectioners sugar to blend well then add milk. For thinner consistency, add more than 6 tablespoons of milk.

Is this right? I just did a google search for "buttercream dream recipe".
Thank you so much!! Don't know why couldn't get that link to work earlier!! Doing my 1st cake for daughter's 2nd birthday this weekend so a little scared but really excited!!
does the cake need to be refrigerated if you use millk in the icing and make the cake 1 or 2 days before event?
Thanks for such a quick response. That always troubled me ,and stopped me from using milk in my icing. Don't want to make anyone ill.
AAbout how long do you mix it? There's like little pieces of what seems like butter in my buttercream. Did I over mix it?

Did you soften your butter long enough? And if so did you soften in the microwave? I kept having that problem and realized that you cannot soften butter in the microwave. It changes the whole chemistry of the butter (that may not be exactly true, just my wording) and I would get little clumps just like that!
I also never add cold milk to my buttercream even though the recipe says to. I use this recipe all the time. It's our family favorite!
AI did soften the butter by letting it sit out at room temperature. I kept mixing it an the little pieces disappeared lol. But my buttercream never crusted. I had to put it in the fridge to crust it. But when I took it out it softened again. And I've read other saying that it does crust. I'm confused :/ lol.
