I'm planning to compete in a LIVE cake challenge in April. The theme is royalty of fairy tales or nursery rhymes. I only get 2 hours to do this cake AND 4 10" rounds. Nothing can be made up ahead of time. We are allowed to use any medium ie: gumpaste/fondant, ect. Anyone have a great idea that won't take FOREVER to complete. I have ideas, but the time limit is a killer. I love making poured white choc shoes.....cinderella?

This is a fundraiser for the Childrens Miracle Network. It will just be good advertising for me, no money prize. I'm hoping to raise the most pledge money, so at least I can win that contest! icon_wink.gif

Well I'd say pick something you are really interested in! I don't care to do cinderella/princess themes (not sure why, but it bugs me to have to do all the castle or shoe detail...) Plus try to think of ones nobody else will think of....

Love the idea of nursery rhymes myself.... Can you build a stand and make something topsy or 3D?

Hansel and Gretel is a fairy tale...I did a cake in that theme but it wouldn't be good enough for a challenge...still, you could check it out in my photos (its two tiered) for ideas. Gingerbread house goes well with that....

Princess and the pea....carve the rounds into four mattresses stacked and decorate like pillow cakes... Maybe even bring some additional separators to look like mattresses if you are allowed?

Another fun carved one...the nursery rhyme "crooked man"...make a crooked house and he has a crooked cat that caught a crooked mouse...all that. icon_smile.gif Could be very whimsey.

Mary Had a Little Lamb....could make a schoolhouse....or even just carve Mary and a Lamb....

Sounds SOOOOO fun!!!! I wanna come. icon_smile.gif

I want you to come too!! I think the trip to SD would be a bit much for you though icon_lol.gif

All very good ideas! Think I'll do a google search on nursery rhymes. I have to be sure I can get it done in only 2 hours.

I'm hosting a gumpaste flower class with Jen Dontz in April. You can fly back and use it for a tax deduction! Perfect icon_biggrin.gif

I'm leaning towards the 3 little kittens that lost their mittens.........I can do kitties and puppies. Thought I would be fun because my daughter loves kitties.

Since you've got the brick impression mat, you could do the final scene of the three little pigs. Make the house with three windows, each with a comically frightened pig peeking out and a comically scary wolf ready to blow on the door.

That is the same idea a friend of mine had......only she wanted the wolf stuck in the chimney! Love it.

You could have one of the kitties looking down over the side of the cake, and just a part of the mitten "peeking" out from either under the cake, or between the layers!

I can't wait to see what you decide...so excited for you!
