I want to make some fondant stars to go on the end of a wire so that I can stick them in the top of a cake.

The last time I made them, I cut out a flat star made from sugarpaste with some cmc added and put a wire in.

When I stuck it in the cake, the wire twists and turns and I couldnt get them to all face the front. How can I stop that from happening next time?

I looked for videos on youtube but I can't find any! Can anyone help?

The star turned on the wire, or the wire turned in the cake?

To keep the star from turning on the wire, get the wire hot (hold in a candle flame) before you stick it in the fondant. Make sure the fondant is thick enough that you will not burn yourself

I use hollow plastic lollipop sticks when I insert wires in a cake. They work really well and you can wrap the bottom of the wire with a little floral tape to give it a snug fit.

Sorry if I sound stupid but I have no idea what you mean about the hollow lolly pop sticks! I haven't seen any of those anywhere here. (in the UK)

I literally cut a piece of wire that I bought from a cake supply store. I then stuck one end into the fondant star and waited for it to dry. When it was ready I stuck it in the cake but the wire twirled in the cake so the star spun round!

Should I put a small ball of fondant on the other end to help stabilise it once I push it into the cake? Maybe I should just get thicker wire and try that?

I've found that you can't reposition them too much in the cake or you make the hole too big and give them spin room. Still they will spin some anyway. If they spin, then bend the star back around to the front. In other words, let it spin and settle where it wants to be and then bend the wire to make the star face forward.
