I'm posting this here instead of "How do I ..." because it's less a question of "How do I ..." than "Where can I ..." icon_rolleyes.gif

At any rate, does anyone have any recommendations? I would love an actual live class (it's much easier for me to dedicate time like that than getting away from the kiddos to do online tutorials, etc. icon_razz.gif), but I haven't been able to find anything nearby my location in good 'ol Western New York.

I'm more than willing to do a short road trip ... (and by the way, we're closer here to Toronto than New York City, in more ways than one!) Pittsburgh and Cleveland are also at least possiblities.

Barring that, could anyone recommend good online tutorials?

Thanks!

Some Wilton instructors at Michaels teach a gumpaste flowers course. There may also be ones offered through community education, or at Bulk Barns, although there are not many that appear to teach. There may also be someone at the Michaels in Niagara Falls area.

JillK, there will be a class held in October by Jennifer Dontz actually in NY I think! She has a two day hands on class and teaches like five or six different flowers. You can see her schedule at jenniferdontz.com.

Not sure how close Klara(Cambridge, Ont) is to you but here's a link to her site anyway.

I did some classes with her years ago and she was great.
Hopes this helps

JillK, this link is to Flour Confections in Pickering, Ontario. They have some amazing classes scheduled including Elisa Strauss, Toba Garrett and Bronwen Weber. Jennifer Dontz will be there in April, but her class must be full because it isn't showing up on the website anymore.

http://www.flourconfections.ca/learn.html

Jennifer will be in Ottawa, CA at the end of May teaching a gumpaste flower class. You might check out this site since you are so close to Canada. It looks like people from CA and the US are both posting.

Jen cancelled some classes and that may of been one of them. But I know she said she was doing the October one with one of the girls that was in the class she had at my house last year. But if you check her website, it should have her schedule on it. If not, email her!

You are right - I just saw this on CakesCanada.

Hey everyone

Some bad news - unfortunately due to personal reasons Jennifer Dontz has had to cancel this class. I will keep you up to date should it be rescheduled, but it may not be until 2010

Hi!

YES! I will be in New Jersey October 17/18 (Cliffside Park, NJ) doing my sugar flower class titled Berries and Blossoms. It is a two day class. If you would like more info, just e-mail me. I can send you pics of the flowers/berries, too. This class is in a condo overlooking New York City. OMG, I can't wait!!!! I've never been to NY city.

Sweet regards,

Jennifer Dontz icon_smile.gif
