I had a really bad time with cupcake liners today. They kept separating from the cupcakes. It was several out of 200 that looked really bad, it was for a wedding. I got it together so that it was presentable but want to avoid this issue in the future.

So I want to do the nut/souffle cups (I think that's what they are called) that have been discussed on here before. The white ones with the pleats and the roll at the top.

What size do I need for cupcakes, regular and mini?

What is a good source to get them in quantity?

The peeling thing hasn't happened to me like this before. I assume it was the humidity and change in temp? icon_confused.gif

I appreciate your help locating the cups. icon_smile.gif

If you want a standard cupcake size then go for the 4 ounce nut cups... give me 2 seconds and I'll give you the link for buying them in bulk...

and while I'm thinking of ..... how on earth do you transport 200 cupcakes. Is there a supplier out there for some sort of the clear plastic cupcake container.

Michaels sells the Wilton ones in the cake decorating isle. 24 to a package. You need a "standard" size nut cup for a regular size cupcake. I'm sure others will know where to buy them in bulk. Hope that helps.

Can you believe, I've lost my link!! I'm trying desperately to find it, I swear! They come in packs of 5000. That sounds like a lot, but I buy them locally at 250 per pack and I breeze through them at a ridiculous rate, so really buying in bulk is a good idea! I'm still looking I swear! Just another minute I hope!!! icon_redface.gif

lenette , sometimes when i use cheap liners or when i overbake, the cupcakes will separate from the liner. overbaking causes shrinkage. remove them a minute earlier from the oven and dont let them sit in the tins long while cooling.

i''ve also had the cc's separate from the liner when using the nut cups . my perfect solution for that, is to bake in normal papers , chill and then press them into the nut cups. you dont have any miss-shapen cc's, no oils or cake color showing through the liner. the cc also then comes out lower than the top of the nut cup liner and so filling it with a big swirl of frosting looks so perfect.

i like to tie ribbon around the nut cups too. such a pretty touch.

A-HA!!!

http://www.foodservicedirect.com/index.cfm/S/329/N/100989/Solo_Pleated_Souffle_Cups.htm

That's what I was looking for!! You want the second one down... the 4 ounce... that's the same size as a standard cupcake. The top one I also have for making a semi-jumbo size, and the 2 ouncers are great for mini cuppies. I know it seems like a lot of liners all at once, but man, you will LOVE them!!! They keep the cuppies fresher longer too! I've done 'experiments' with it, and it's true!

Well, if you are baking for customers you will burn through those bad boys lickety split!! I mean, I am getting orders for 200 cupcakes at a time here, so it's not a big deal for me, but if you are talking about a novice baker who just does a few cupcakes once in a while, yah, that's too many! However, if you have any CC friends within a relatively short distance... split it with someone! Once I started using them it was all over for regular liners... I rarely use them now unless someone requests them, like if they want specific character liners.

I personally buy my boxes and cupcakes inserts from Big River Packaging at www.brpboxshop.com They have excellent products, great service, FREE shipping via UPS no matter HOW much you spend (no minimum order) and I usually get my products the very next day after ordering! Also, I only live about 45 minutes or so from the company, so I have 'stopped by' to check out a few things and their staff is wonderful! They are friendly, accomodating, and seem like they care that I get what I want! That speaks volumes to me! If I am curious about an item, they will go pull a sample from stock and show it to me to be sure it's exactly what I am looking for. And, if you have a special item you want and they don't carry it, if you request it, they will do their best to create it and offer it! They are a great company in my experience!

You can buy them at GFS and Restaraunt Depot. I think the quantities there are like 500.

I put my cc's in a 1/2 sheet or full sheet box. I usually get about 50 per 1/2 sheet box. I refrigerate them before I transport them to help them travel better.

BRP is the BOMB!

No problem, it's my pleasure!

And twooten is absolutely right! You can usually buy smaller quantities at the restaurant supply stores. That's where I get mine. I usually buy a thousand at a time, but like I said, I burn through them pretty quickly!

What are they??? Follow the link I posted and you will see a pic... they are just pleated paper cups that you can bake it. Some people call them nut cups because they are commonly used at weddings to dispense little cups of nuts or mints.

As for why they are better... it's really a matter of personal preference! I like them because:
1. The seem to keep the cupcakes fresher longer.
2. You don't have to use a cupcake pan. You put batter in them and line them up on a cookie sheet to bake them, so I can get a lot more in my oven at one time.
3. They look professional to me, don't know why, they just do.
4. The way you get the cupcake out is kind of fun... it's almost like unwrapping a present!
5. They are supposed to be easy to decorate the cup, but I am apparently somewhat 'nut cup challenged'... I cannot get the stupid ribbon on there to save my life.
6. The are easier to transport and handle. To me, regular cupcakes can sometimes be top heavy and prone to tip. These have a nice flat bottom and they are not a lot narrower at the bottom compared to the top as you usually find with cupcake liners.

I just like them. It may just be a novelty at this point, but I enjoy using them and would encourage anyone to try them. Of course, I would suggest you get a package of 24 at the craft store to try them before investing in a large number!!! Just bear in mind the Wilton ones at the craft store are the 3.5 ounce (I believe... or is it 3.75?) and are a bit smaller than a standard cuppy. The four ouncers are perfect standard cuppy size!!

Thank you so much!! And yes, filled cupcakes are the most indulgent little treat! YUM! You'd be surprised how quickly you could rule the world if you motivated people with them! icon_lol.gif

Edited to add: And with my cuppies, it's like 'a little cake with the filling'! Hehehe. I love the filling! Can't help it!

Hi
I get mine from Gordon Food Service They come in a case of 5000
3.5 oz for about $90.00.
You have to order them but they are the cheapest I've seen.

If you live in Florida GFS sells them in their stores for about $5.00 for a sleeve of 250.

If you don't have GFS in your area I'm sure there is something like it near you. You might have to check their ordering catalogue but it is worth it.

this is where i pull out the ole' hot glue gun. a small dab of glue in the middle of the ribbon (placed at the backside of the cupcake), pull it forward and tie it. otherwise i cant get them to stay up. this works great.

Hmmm... I'll have to try that. I was trying to wrap a piece of ribbon around it flat, not tying it. I tried gluing it to the cup, I tried double sided sticky tape, it was SO annoying!
