So, we have our state fair in two months, and I just received an entry form for it...

There are two catergories...wedding (china plate theme) and occasion cakes. THAT ONE is Fairy Tales.

What does that say to you? I am thinking that the cake should be a traditional fairy tale, like red riding hood or cinderella, but I want to avoid any castles (because I think a lot of people will do that).

I am leaning toward Jack and the Bean Stalk. What do you think?

Also, how would YOU turn a peice of china into a cake?

I LOVE the Jack and the Beanstalk idea, and think you could have alot of fun with it!

I am by no means a professional, and I am sure you will get much better ideas than mine, but for the china plate theme...maybe mimicking a china pattern on the cake?

Martha Stewart has Wedding Cakes based on China patterns.. I think it does not have to be exactly a Chinese design but something from a plate.. any beautiful plate.. as for the Fairy tale, i would stay away from castles.. IMHO,, I think castles are boring. We see them every where.

puss in boots
pied piper of hamlin
the brementown musicians
ugly duckling
little jack horner
3 little pigs (and the big bad wolf!)
sleeping beauty
cinderrella
snow white
thumbilina
the borrowers

(would avoid most Grimm Brothers tales as they are grim! -- but Hans Christian Anderson -- lots of fun there)

ugly ducking could be a fun cake -- center would be a big frame like it was a mirror. on onside the ugly ducking looking at his reflection which is actually a full size swan on the other side of the frame.

brementown musicians could be a knockout if you did a cake version of the famous statue in Bremerhaven. Shows the donkey on the bottom, the dog on the donkey's back, the cat on the dog's back and the rooster on the cat's back... a very tall 3D separated tier cake (legs would be fondant covered pillars)

be sure to post pics of what ever you do. Good Luck!
