Well, I think I am far enough away from this disaster to share. I shared a little bit on one of the pictures posted....but here it is. Someone ordered a luau cake and wanted strawberry, lemon and strawberry with corresponding fillings. However, I decided that I didn't need to first make a little wall of buttercream to put my fillings in - I thought I could handle it. WELL, I couldn't!!!! The fillings kept coming out and mixing in with my buttercream and making a huge mess. I kept tying to fix it and cover it up and it turned into a huge ugly mess. Luckily this was the afternoon before it was due to be delivered. So, I started again and re-baked all the cakes and totally re-made the whole darn thing. I did everything the right way and it turned out pretty well! During all of this a neighbor came down and invited me to his wife's b-day party and asked me to make a chocolate cake for Sunday afternoon. So, on Saturday my husband said, "you can't waste all that cake, why don't you just take that down to Julie's house for her b-day - you're doing it for free anyway!" So, I made a chocolate cake and I took out the middle tier of cake and took all the icing and decorations off the two strawberry cakes and then re-decorated it. I guess after it had sat all night long, there was no more filling coming out and it was much easier to decorate. So, we gave both cakes to the neighbor and she loved them, I kept the lemon one for us (myfavorite) and we are still eating on it...ugly decorations and all!!!!!!

This is the second luau cake that turned out a little better. The customer wanted flowers on the cake, but I told her it was too much, so we kept just the shells and seaweed.....

Wow...great save! It would have been a shame to waste a cake that sounds so delicious. They look great too!

Thanks yous guys! I made the shells with candy melts and molds.....it was my first time and they were really easy. I bought white and pink but just used the white and added color gel swirled in to get the color effect. I will definitely use molds again...I love them!!! Smile
