I'm just starting to work with gum paste, and I have a question. When making a rose that you don't want on a wire, I read/saw that it is made on a toothpick. The instructions then said the toothpick is removed once the flower is completed. Does it come out that easily? Or do you have to snip it off? Does anybody have any other tips for me?
The toothpick does not come out easily and you may have to snip it off.
When you make roses on a wire or toothpick you need to make the center ball first and let it dry before applying the petals. If you allow the gumpasteto dry completely you will have a problem removing either.
So my suggestion is make your gumpaste centers for your rose and before they are completely dry remove your sticks then you can let them fully dry and work on your rose.
One does not *have to* make roses on either wire or toothpick. I have made 100s w/either.
