I am new to cake decorating. I have seen a weeding cake with the frosting that looks like a birch bark tree.

I would love to have the instructions on how this was done for my son's wedding cake. can anyone help me!

One way is to just pipe horizontal striped chocolate accents on the white background. Here's two examples from the galleries by MimiStacie and Khoudek that are easy to see....

I would think you could paint the brown on with chocolate paint. I've seen a tutorial somewhere....might be here on CC. If not here...try youtube.com. Hope this helps. Cool cake!

I did this with chocolate and a wood graining tool. Instructions were from Martha Stewart. Not as hard as it looks.

Did you get any more info on doing this or have you done it and have some tips? I was just asked to do my cousins wedding cake as a birch tree in May 2011 and trying to find some tips to practice. Tahnks!
