I am doing a cake that the customer wants to put a picture frame, sitting upright, on top of the cakes. It is going to be 3 seperate cakes on tiered platters, and on the bottom 2 is where she wants to picture frames. These are going to be light, low quality, plastic frames from the dollar store, but i was wondering if I should still dowel it? How would I do it? 1 under the foot, 2 on the actual frame? Can this even be done??

i don't think you need to dowel these if they're fairly light. perhaps a little plastic wrap on the bottoms of the frames (or set them on sugar cubes or sliced marshmallows or other small candy to keep the frames from touching the icing). be sure your icing is firm enough that the frame won't "sink" into it (i.e., don't use whipped cream and make sure your buttercream sets or crusts before placing the frames on it).
