Fondant/gumpaste Mixture - No Gumtex... Help!
Decorating By bonniebakes Updated 3 May 2006 , 7:56pm by jenie

Hi,
I've searched and searched the forums, and I can't find the answer to this question... I want to make a fondant/gumpaste mixture, so that it hardens more and is more stable than regular fondant. I am not concerned about how hard it will be - I know no one will be eating it. The problem is, I don't have any gum-tex and can't get it before I want to make the flowers. Can I add some of the Wilton gumpaste powder mix to ready-made fondant for the same result? Or do I have to make the gumpaste and them combine the two?
thanks so much for any help or advice!!

Sorry Bonnie, I didn't see the post until now. Just popped back on.
KHalstead: I just sent PM back to Bonnie.... Hope it works for you.
Yes, What I was told and it works really well, is just add the gumpaste to your fondant, a very small amount at a time. A little will go a long way so you might play with it.
After I mixed the gumpaste I let some of it sit out to see how long or if it would hold like the gumpaste itself. It worked. Some takes a little longer to dry but dries quicker then plain fondant. If you have extra to play with you might want to make test runs first. You don't need to add anything else.......just the powder. Maybe some water if it's too dry.
I like the fondant and gumpaste mix since it smells better. Actually it is more tasty if someone wants to eat it.
Good luck and I hope it answered your question.

Just wanted to update...
Last weekend I made flowers with the fondant/gumpaste powder mix (the pics are in my photos). Worked great! It didn't get too dry while working with it and dried hard in SO much less time than regualr fondant.
thanks for your help!!

Hi Bonnie
I can't find gum-tex here either. What I'm using now is the "Philippine gumpaste". No need to add gum-tex or gum tragacanth. I just dont know what's the difference between using a gum-tex or not. The recipe calls for:
2 T unflavored gelatin
2/3 C cold water
2 lbs. powdered sugar
