Thank you so much for sharing. Great Cake! I just have one question, I was always taught and told that you never insert wire into a cake. Could you please clarify.

You could also use raw spaghetti to poke through the firecrackers.  

I wrap fondant around the part of the wire that goes into the cake and let it dry before poking into the cake.  It help to keep the wire from twirling and tearing the cake from the weight of what is attached to the top of the wire.  I've used straws, but they have to be filled with fondant to keep the wires from twirling around and they leave a big hole in the cake where they are poked in.
