Marine Dress Uniform Cake
By arosstx
Fondant covered cake. All “gold” items are molded from an actual Marine dress uniform, then made of white chocolate and dusted with Super Gold dust. The medals are from the actual soldier’s uniform but are loose interpretations – fondant painted with powdered color and gold dust.

I made two of these flag cakes and 3 full undecorated sheet cakes for the VFW and American Legion Veterans Day lunches. They flipped over them, and said they weren’t going to cut them!!!

Veteran's Day 2008

Veteran’s Day Celebration. There are different silhouettes on each side of the cake. The background is mmf that I painted to try to make it look like a sunset. I cut the silhouettes out of regular fondant (because it takes the black food coloring better.) I hope you like it.

Veteran Seal Cake

I had the privilege of being asked to create a cake for a retiring Veteran who was also an ex-Marine as well. It was an honor to bake for one of our country’s finest. This was my first attempt at making an eagle and I’m pretty happy with the way it turned out. Chocolate cake with mint chocolate chip filling and all gumpaste decorations.

Marine Corps Memorial Day cake

I made this cake for a friend who’s Dad and Brother served and her son is in the Junior Marines program. First attempt with fondant on a whole cake so I was pretty pleased overall. Fondant covers mistakes well LOL. It is a 2 layer 9 inch Hershey’s collector cake recipe I found here (Thank you great recipe) filled and iced with Chocolate hazelnut buttercream. Covered in MMF. Insignia is candy molds (after a bad attempt at tempering white chocolate) painted with gold luster dust. Doesn’t show up well but the stars on the side have pixie dust glitter on them. Thanks for looking!

Veteran's Day

By twinsmake5
Added this one so you can see the edible image a little better. I loved the picture. I don’t care for edible images but this one was worth it. Also, the two cakes were both done from nothing starting at 9:30 and delivered by 1:30 to the kids school for their 3rd grade classes. Had I had more time, I’d have done things differently. I’ll be ready next year!

Remembering Lance CPL Marcus Cherry

By CatherineR
Made this red, white & blue WASC with strawberry filling for a friend that lost her son in Iraq. Covered in buttercream with fondant buttons, belt, patch. Covered foamcore with fondant for top of 6″ WASC hat and brim. This was a labor of love and deep appreciation for this young man’s ultimate sacrifice for his country. Marcus was unable to buy his “Dress Blues” because he was deployed to Iraq & was going to buy his dress blues once he returned. His mom wanted his LCP patch on this “dress blues” cake.

Military Gift Box

Requested by Army Mom for her son who is being deployed. Family having a big party in his honor to celebrate his birthday in May (he’ll be deployed), announce that his wife is pregnant (they just found out) and it’s his going away party. Here is the cake I came up with to include all three events. Mom mentioned she was having t-shirts made that had a yellow bow and read Army Mom/Dad/Wife, respectively, so I put baby in the onesie and added the bow. MMF. Gumpaste accessories. 3 layer 10″ square cake. God bless our troops! Box design and instructions from Sharon Zambito’s Boxes and Bows DVD.
