Origami can be made from all kinds of paper, but these daring and innovative cakemakers have created cranes and other origami-inspired designs out of fondant, gumpaste and molded sugar to decorate these origami cakes.

This wedding had a Japanese theme. I made the origami cranes out of fondant and the cherry blossoms out of gumpaste. The Japanese symbols were cut out of fondant. The cake was iced smooth with buttercream, and the bottom of each tier was wrapped with black ribbon.

This cake is a few years old, but just relocated the photo. Made for a Japanese couple who were married at our hotel. Original design is not mine, bride brought in a photo she wanted copied exactly, other than the color which she switched to purple.
