I was asked to make a 5th birthday cake, just a plain round one will do, with maybe a picture of TMNT on it!…WELL, I browsed the gallery and found that someone had done a TMNT cake like this, so I just HAD to have a go!:)

Cake is carved from chocolate mud cake (shell and torso), chocolate buttercake (legs) and my own chocolate rice krispy recipe (head and arms). Entire shape covered in chocolate ganache underneath coloured fondant. Bandana over shoulder strengthened with cellogen (gel) powder. The non-edible parts (katana, holster (on back) and shuriken) are plastic from a non-TMNT Ninja kids play set (if you can believe that!). Loads of fun to make, and a welcome diversion from wedding cakes…thanks for looking!

This cake is for a 8 years old boy who loves turtles. Because I have a girl, I have no idea about these boys things. The birthdayboy liked it anyway.Cake is filled with strawberries, whipped cream and strawberry jam. On top of it there is a buttercream under a marzipan.

I made this Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cake for my friend’s son who is celebrating his 6th birthday this weekend. It’s an 8 inch buttercream cake with fondant details and figures. I received a very sweet phone call from little Cooper thanking me for his “cool” cake which made all the work that went into it so well worth it! :) TFL!

This is the first thing I’ve ever made with RKT and covered in fondant. Any tips on how I can make it smoother would be greatly appreciated!!!

  1. I am curious how these cakes were chose? I also have a Ninja Turtles cake posted on this site. It’s been viewed almost 1000 times, and is also quite popular on Pinterest. I think these cakes are great, and I’m not trying to sound braggy… but I think my cake is just as good as most of these, and I guess I think it belongs on this list. http://cakecentral.com/g/i/2883965/a/3281265/two-layer-red-velvet-cake-vanilla-icing-because-this-cake-will-have-to-be-frozen-and-thawed-out-in-4-days-so-i-didnt-want-to-use-cream-cheese-marshmallow-fondant-head-hand-are-fondant-covered-rcts-lid-is-gumpaste/

  2. I have a cake in my gallery that fits a theme, why wasn’t it chosen for top cakes?

We really rely on your description of the cake when searching for keywords related to a theme. Perhaps we didn’t come across your cake in our searching, based on how you described it. When reviewing multiple projects for inclusion in top cakes, we consider original and creative ideas, merits of the piece, as well as the quality of the photography, to name a few things. However, it’s important to keep in mind that not being included in top cakes is not a judgement of your work or skill.

How can I improve my chances of being included in top cakes?

Help us to help you! When you upload pictures of your projects, include a thorough description of the subject matter and the techniques and tools you used. If we can find your cake in a search, you have a much better chance of being included. Also, we can’t stress enough how important photography is! Take pictures of your cakes with a clean background and be sure your cake is well lit, with no shadows or reflective bright spots. Use a tripod to ensure your image is in focus, and NEVER use a flash.
