My Altered WASC Cake Recipe

Posted by on Oct 24, 2012 in | 0 comments

I found this recipe awhile ago and have used it for so many cake decorating projects that I kind of know it by heart. Everyone loves it and it’s easy enough for me to work with and stable to decorate on and stack.

Ingredients

Amount Ingredient
1 box Cake mix (I’ve used different brands and flavors)
1 cup white flour
1 cup white sugar
1 tsp salt
3 Tb vegetable oil
1 1/3 cup water
1 cup regular full-fat sour cream
3/4-1 cup egg whites (from carton, depending on how think you want. I’ve used 3/4 cup before and didn’t notice a difference)
1-2 tsp vanilla- optional

Directions

Combine dry ingredients in mixing bowl and mix until well combined. Add wet ingredients and mix until well incorporated. I normally mix it on high a little to get some air into the batter and to make it nice and fluffy with the egg whites. Pour into pans sprayed with cooking spray. I bake at 350 for 20 minutes for cupcakes and start at 25 minutes for any other cakes and add time as needed. Cool completely before taking out of pan.

Sometimes I forget the salt or vanilla and don’t really notice a difference so I just put it in if I remember. I’ve also tried different brands of cake mix and don’t really like one over the other so I just use what is on sale or what I have on hand. Everyone loves this! What I love about this recipe is that for me, it always bakes up even on top so I don’t have to level off my cakes before using them- saves time!

Nanner-chocolate cake

This is a devil’s food and bananna cake that my grandmother has made for every birthday since I can remember. Simple and moist, you can doctor this up to use for a more adult taste or just frost and enjoy.

Ingredients:

Amount Ingredient
one box devil’s food cake mix
one over ripe bananna

Directions:

follow package directions for making cake. Mash bananna and mix into cake. For a real homemade cake with chunks of bananna, I mash and mix by hand. If you are gonna use this for a carved cake, leave out a third of the oil and mash bananna well, mixing it in with mixer. We like just plain milk chocolate icing with this one. For decorated cakes, I like to use bananna pudding for filling. I have made this cake from scratch also but using the mix is soooo easy!

White Chocolate WASC

I love the White Chocolate WASC by patticakesnc but it wasn’t quite “white chocolate” enough for me. With a few changes, this is perfect! I often fill it with fruit-flavored buttercream (specifically raspberry or strawberry). This recipe stacks well and can be carved as well.

Ingredients:

Amount Ingredient
2 boxes white cake mix
2 c AP flour
2 c sugar
1 1/2 tsp salt
1 box Jello white chocolate pudding mix (3.3 oz)
6 eggs
2 c sour cream
4 T oil
1 c International Delight white chocolate coffee creamer
2 c water
2 tsp chocolate flavoring syrup (I use Torani in the coffee aisle)

Directions:

Sift together dry ingredients. Slowly add wet ingredients in an electric mixer. Pour in prepared pans (1/2 full) and bake at 325 until toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

Yields 2 – 10″ rounds and 2 – 6″ rounds.

Orange-Lemon Meringue Cake

I tried this recipe at a restaraunt near me recently and it was so awesome that I decided to come home and try to replicate this cake because I can’t afford to eat out all that often, but I wanted to remember it and be able to try it again. So I came home and immediately started throwing recipes together and trying stuff out. I believe that I have found my winner finally. My pastor’s wife tried my first attempt at it and she was in love with it. I was happy to have come so close, but I still wanted to play around with the icing some more. So here is the whole thing. Even my husband who does not like lemon tried it and liked it and even ate a second cupcake(cupcakes were my first attempt) The layer cake is going to be where I stop. I have the recipes honed down like I want them to be. It is just cooking them in different pans then what the original recipe called for.

I have used this recipe 2 or 3 times at least and always get rave reviews on it.
While on the forum this week I was telling the people about it and several asked if I would share it. So I did and then I thought that I might as well share it with everyone. I got it out of a magazine “Cooking with Paula Deen”
