Apple Butter Spice Cake

1 cup apple butter (check out Cake Central’s recipe)
1½ cups butter
2½ cups white sugar
4 eggs
3 cups all-purpose flour
2 cups whole wheat flour
2 teaspoons baking soda
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
½ teaspoon ground cloves
¼ teaspoon salt
Caramel sauce

Preheat the oven to 325°F. Grease and flour one 10-inch tube pan.

In a large bowl, cream the butter with sugar. Beat in the eggs.

In a separate bowl, stir together the all-purpose flour, wheat flour, baking soda, salt, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, and ground cloves.

Add the flour mixture to the butter and sugar, mix until just thoroughly moistened. Pour the batter into the prepared pan.

Using a large spoon, drop heaping-spoonfuls of apple butter evenly spaced on the top of the batter.

Swirl the apple butter throughout the pan of batter using a toothpick.

Bake at 325° for 1½ hours, or until cake tests done. Let cake cool on rack.

Drizzle warm caramel sauce over the cake.

This recipe sounds good, in fact I can almost taste it except, there seems to be an over abundance of flour (5cups????) Maybe someone was doubling it and didn't double the rest. If you get a remedy, let me know!!! Grammy1963

I made this cake for the first time and going by the previous comments I assumed it needed changes. Here's what I did: I omitted the whole wheat flour entirely, and added about a cup of milk. I alternated adding the milk and the flour mixture. i used a mini bundt pan and they're definitely sticking so make sure you grease your pan well -- but that could just be me doing a bad job of "swirling" -- give this recipe another chance with my changes -- i promise it's worth it! taking out the whole wheat flour and adding the milk DID make it very fine so you might want to add a LITTLE more flour (like 3 1/2 -4cups) if you want it to be dense.
