Your Slice: What’s Your Dream Wedding Cake?

As cake-makers we spend a lot of time tailoring wedding cakes to the bride and groom’s desires, but in the back of our minds, we daydream about what we would want our own cake to look like if we got married or renewed our vows. It’s hard to not imagine how our favorite details, colors and flavors would come together on the perfect wedding cake.

What is your least favorite cake and why?

We’ve all had it happen. You devote hours to a project, and it just doesn’t turn out the way you wanted it to. Maybe, despite all of the effort you put in, a cake will just turn out ugly. Maybe a cake is so hellish to work on that you can’t enjoy the finished product, even if it is perfect. For whatever reason, sometimes we make cakes that we’re not very fond of.

What is your Cake New Year’s Resolution?

The new year is right around the corner, and we’re making big plans. We love to keep ourselves busy and challenged, so we’ve been thinking about new techniques (and old ones that need revisiting), and planning for 2013. Cake-making requires a lot of work and dedication, and it’s easy to forget to make time to reflect on what you’ve accomplished. We know how that goes. There’s always a new technique or client to be thinking about in the future so we forget to look back. Now is your chance to pause and think!

What was your scariest cake moment?

Sometimes cakes can take on a life of their own with gruesome and grim results. Are they haunted? Maybe cursed? Who knows! What we do know is that they can be terrifying and intimidating when it comes to trying to whip them back into shape.
