It’s no secret that I am a fan of DonnaOK, and this multi-cake dessert table spread is a great example of why. She makes beautiful cakes coated in luscious buttercream that are both modern and classically elegant.

I love this castle and dragon cake by Angiolina2009. There are so many wonderful little details, like the stone textures on the towers and the wood grain doors.

Justine’s Faves:

900x900px-LL-62f1f092_cats[1]This cookie by IrinaVS is absolutely stunning, as is all her cookie work. The level of detail is amazing and the intricate patterns are beautiful.

I just love this lifelike ramen noodle cake by Sandemac. The illusion of the floating chopsticks creates a definite wow factor.

900x900px-LL-31acf62e_20130320_183107[1]

This pink carousel cake by _di-di_ has so many different techniques and elements to it, and they are all well executed. The little carousel horse figures, hand painting, brush embroidery, tube embroidery, lace work and extension work are divine.

As usual, nevie-pie totally wows us with her hand painting! I couldn’t resist including this in my faves. These flowers are exquisite, and the cutout concept makes this cake unique. It is at once edgy and elegant, and the artistry is amazing.

900x900px-LL-27563dc1_Hochzeitstorte2[1]

This wedding cake by toskanaloewe, covered in gorgeous sugar flowers, is so pretty. I love the color palette and the combination of lace and flowers.

This cake is gorgeous! I love the variety of gumpaste flowers pippilotta used on this cheerful cake, and the bright, loud colors she chose are some of my favorites.

When I saw KHMV’s monster cake pop up in the recently added cakes section of the gallery, I knew I had to include it in my Friday Faves. It just has so much personality!

ChrisJack1 is already on my list of “ones to watch,” and these cakes are a great example of why! They are each individual works of art, but together they make for a charming masterpiece.

This wedding cake by ellawillow is the epitome of simple and sophisticated! The lacy design is beautiful (and impressive for her first time using SugarVeil!).

900x900px-LL-b11bbf46_horse1[1]

This goofy racehorse just makes me smile! Excellently made by heatherhasstyle in a class with Kaysie Lackey, it shows how fun cake can be.

These hand-painted Easter cookies from Artful Bakery look like they jumped right off the pages of a storybook. The adorable, happy bunny and chick make me want to celebrate springtime!

900x900px-LL-361b2564_Brave22[1]

This sculpture of Merida from Brave is so realistic! HaveSomeSugar perfectly captures Merida’s spirited attitude— and her signature curly hair.

I couldn’t resist including this yarn ball cake in my faves! I love how accurately IHeartCupcakes captured the look of two-ply variegated yarn. It looks like you could pick up a ball and knit with it!

900x900px-LL-3319b5a7_002[1]

One of my favorite things about spring is when the cherry blossoms bloom, and the petals get blown around by the wind. MoreSugar01’s cake makes me want to go walk through a garden full of Japanese cherry trees. It’s beautiful.

Using a basic rose cutter, and some inspiration from other CC members,  Benja created a clean green & white cake that is fit for an elegant St. Patrick’s Day party, or spring wedding.

900x900px-LL-ab3db90e_IMG_8754[1]

pambakescakes created a great color combination with greens and pink, and the brush embroidery roses are just lovely.

These bright St. Patrick’s Day cupcakes from Cuteologycakes are very green and very fun! I love how they incorporate St. Patty’s Day phrases and the colors of the rainbow.

900x900px-LL-c35027ce_green4foil[1]

This cake by Mirabellecake is the perfect example of simple and sophisticated. The pale green color is happy and bright, and the single white ranunculus makes a great accent to the quatrefoil pattern.

Andi’s Faves

With St. Patricks Day coming up, I’ve had green on my mind, and  Tasiorrr87’s green tyrannosaurus rex cake immediately caught my attention while I was scrolling through new cakes. I think it’s just adorable!

900x900px-LL-77f304c5_Emi[1]
Mina77’s tea cup with flowers is beautifully romantic. Her white and yellow flowers combined with the antique wood finish on the box perfectly accomplish the shabby-chic look she was going for.

Coffee, coffee, coffee! I love it when a cake looks so real I have to click on a photo thumbnail to find out if it’s actually cake! Galagonya has an incredible talent for realistic details, from the colors to the textures and shapes. This cake deserves a gold medal!

I love this vintage-style circus cake by KelseyCakes The little details on this cake are just wonderful, such as the elephant holding up a tiny cake with it’s trunk and the use of gelatin bubbles as balloons. This was a no-brainer for the Top Circus Theme Cakes!

Slice of Queen Elizabeth’s wedding cake sells for £560

Slice of Queen Elizabeth’s wedding cake sells for £560

How much is a piece of cake history worth? A lot, judging by the outcome of the Feb. 28 auction of a well-preserved slice of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip’s wedding cake. The 65-year-old slice of fruit cake went for £560 and came with a compliments slip from the wedding conveying the best wishes of Princess Elizabeth and the Duke of Edinburgh. The wedding cake was four tiers, nine feet tall and weighed 500 pounds. It included ingredients that came from Australia and South Africa, earning it the nickname “the 10,000-mile cake.” When the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh said their vows in 1947, over 2000 guests enjoyed a slice of the historic cake.

In May 2011, a slice of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s wedding cake sold for £1,917. Slices from the royal wedding cakes of Prince Charles and Camilla, Prince Charles and Lady Diana, and Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson have also been auctioned off over the years. Preserving the royal wedding cake is a longstanding tradition; Buckingham Palace still has a tin containing a slice of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert’s cake on display.
