Brown Sugar Whipped Icing

Posted by AnniesEdibles What can I say about this icing? It's sweet, but not too sweet. It's smooth. It's not greasy. It's light and airy and just melts in your mouth. It adds to the flavor of cakes/cupcakes, not detracts from it. I'm not a fan of frosting/icing. I'm a fan of cake. Too often, I think the copious amounts of icing you find on cake just makes it overly sweet and... Gross. It's distracting! This icing goes perfectly with the banana cake recipe I've posted. Ingredients 1 cup milk 5 tablespoons all-purpose flour 1½ cup brown sugar 1 cup butter (2... read more

Buttercream frosting

Posted by cakemaker1015 This is a good creamy recipe that tastes great too! It is stiff so you can make flowers and decorate cakes with it, but it won't have enough crisco to get that greasy feeling in your mouth. If it is to thick to spread (It souldn't be) you can add a bit of milk, just a little bit, and mix that in, or you could microwave it for just a few seconds! don't microwave it to long! Oh! It also takes colors very well, and it is pretty white Ingredients 1 stick- unsalted butter, room temp. 1 and 2/3 cups- powder sugar about 1/3 (can add more to... read more

Cookies and French Cream frosting

Posted by Erin3085 This is a recipe I tweaked a little and use as a filling for chocolate cakes, or a frosting for vanilla cakes. Could frost either, but I just prefer a more subtle chocolate than a chocolate overload. This recipe makes enough for me to frost 24 cupcakes and a small 6-inch cake. :) Enjoy! Ingredients 1 cup whole milk 5 tbsp. All-purpose flour 1 cup granulated sugar 1 cup room temp. butter. 1 tsp vanilla flavoring 1/2 cup crushed chocolate sandwich cookies. Instructions Whisk together the milk and flour in a medium saucepan over... read more

Crusting Caramel Buttercream Icing

Posted by zespri This is a Martha Stewart recipe. I wasn't able to find any caramel buttercream recipes on cakecentral by searching, so figured I'd share this one as it is yummy! I made some last night using home-made dulce de luche for the caramel. It was pale in colour, and the caramel flavour was subtle, it was really nice! It piped easily onto cupcakes, and crusted quite quickly. I've posted an extra photo of the cupcakes I used it on without their decoration in case anyone wants to see the colour they turned out using the (quite pale) dulce de... read more
