How to Make a 3D Candle Cake

Posted by RoadrunnerGER Thank you for all the nice comments on my candle cake. I’m still stunned that the candles, that I didn’t even want to post at first, are so well liked. Thank you as well for requesting this. As I didn’t take pictures of the stages I had to improvise and make a few sketches. I hope it’ll help. As I was already asked about it: I don’t make the marzipan myself. I can buy it at the local supermarket. The marzipan paste we can get there is a bit too dark and soft for modelling, so I usually knead in about the same amount of confectioner’s sugar.... read more

How To Make A Pillow Cake

Posted by missyek [featuredcakes] Pillow cakes are such a neat design and are actually pretty simple to make. In this tutorial I'm going to show how to do a square pillow cake with curved sides as opposed to the straight sides. If you would like to do a pillow with just straight sides, just omit the steps that cut the curves out of the cake. Cutting curves into the cake does reduce the cake size a bit (but if your family likes cake scraps, then you are okay!). Don't restrict yourself to square cakes either! Pillow cakes can easily be made out of almost any shape... read more

How To Make A Royal Icing Tiara

Posted by carrielynnfields In making this tutorial to teach you all how to put together tiaras I learned a few things in the process as well. #1. When making a tiara with a lot of dots such as this one, ALWAYS start off with using JUST lines for at least the first layer for structure, using just dots as I did will ensure that it will break when unmolding it as you can see in the picture. Next time I will just use the small dots on the last layer of RI or chocolate.#2. If your tiara has many open spaces as this one does, make sure that your Royal Icing... read more

How To Make 3D Goose Shaped Cake

Posted by kakeladi This project is a cute idea and a great place to start if you have never carved a cake before. I've made this goose a couple of times, each time used a different combination of cakes to work with. One could use a 1/2 egg or football shape cake for the body and a small (6" OR 8"?) square to create the head, neck and tail; cut from a 9x13 sheet or even use round layers. Step 1) I had three 9" x 1&1/2" heart cakes to work with. Two layers of heart cakes are stacked - the point of the heart is the tail section.  The 3rd heart is cut... read more

How To Bake & Decorate Cookies

Posted by antonia74 Here is my technique, step-by-step, from raw dough to drying. It was developed simply from trial and error. Where applicable, I've photographed the procedure to give you a clearer idea. CUTTING & BAKING No Fail Sugar Cookies Recipe (NFSC) I prefer to make my cookie dough fresh for each order. Less storage in my freezer and they are soft and ready for rolling. I really like the recipes you will find at cookie cutter websites. They tend to be less butter/more flour ratios that are great when you don't want a cookie that spreads or... read more
