This step-by-step tutorial will show you how to make a cake shaped like a purse
![]() |
Items required:
|
![]() |
Bake a sheet cake 11×15 and cut into 1/3 |
![]() |
Stack your pieces on top of one another..
Here I have the wooden dowels showing, so you will know where But you will push them down through |
![]() Side View of the Purse Cake |
Here I have crumb coated the cake in Crusting Buttercream, then shaved a little off the sides to form a purse shape. |
![]() |
I made some Fondant Accents for the Purse.
Using the ruler, I measured all areas needed to cover in fondant.. Let these dry for a few hours.. Use the fondant cutter & embosser to make the stitch effect. |
![]() |
Ice the entire cake in Crusting Buttercream and awaitsit’s final touches. |
![]() |
Apply the fondant accents to the cake.
TIP: You can use a tiny bit of alcohol (clear Vodka, Everclear etc) brushed on the back of the accents to make them adhere to your buttercream |
![]() |
I went with the Dooney & Bourke look
I used tinted buttercream and piped on the letters |

I’ve made a Dooney & Bourke cake and I made the D and B letters from Royal Icing. I actually printed out the letters in the font I could find closest to the official D & B, with a cardboard behind the printed paper placed wax paper over and began tracing the Ds and Bs with desired colors of royal icing. It came out very nice and clean. I like this cake, but the piping D & B makes it look kinda amateur. Next time try Royal Icing or if you prefer the whole cake being fondant, paint the letters with a stencil. But great job with the handles, trim, etc. That looks awesome!
