Strawberry Chiffon Cake

All credit goes to the website I got this from. I plan on making it with strawberries but you can do osmething different if you want.

Ingredients

  • • 5 eggs, separated
  • • 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • • 2 1/2 cups sifted all-purpose flour
  • • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • • 1 teaspoon salt
  • • 3/4 cup water
  • • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • • Strawberries, kiwifruit and whipped cream for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 325°F.
    Beat egg whites with cream of tartar at high speed with electric mixer until stiff peaks form.
    Set aside.
    Sift together dry ingredients into large bowl.
    Make a well in flour mixture.
    Add egg yolks, water, oil and flavorings; mix well.
    Fold in egg white mixture.
    Immediately pour into not greased 10-inch tube pan.
    Bake 55 minutes.
    Increase oven temperature to 350°F.
    Continue baking 10 minutes or until cake springs back when lightly touched with finger.

I would assume that the strawberries, kiwi and whipped topping are "optional" as it states in the ingredients list. That would mean to top it with those or other fruits as you desired. Maybe I am wrong but that is the way I understood the recipe???

i've been doing chiffon cake for ages...you can use the same recipe for different flavours by replacing water with for example coconut juice and vanilla for pandan essence to make coconut pandan chiffon cake...or fresh orange juice and omit vanilla and add 1 tsp of grated orange zest to make orange chiffon cake

forgot to add, in response to LisaPeps, yes maybe you can replace with strawberry puree however it will be too thick so you might need to add water until the consistency is between water and freshly squeezed orange juice and replace vanilla with strawberry essence or flavouring...i've already tried mango puree but 'watered" it down once but did have much tang as the orang chiffon......

Maybe a strawberry daiquiri mix added to subsitute the water? Not sure if that's too sweet? I think I'll try the orange juice subsitute though!
