My Easy Buttercream Frosting

This is the best buttercream frosting that I have ever tried. I bake and decorate cakes part time to make a little extra money and this is the frosting that everybody wants. I let my customers choose which frostings they want and 99% of the time, this is the frosting they choose.

My Easy Buttercream Frosting

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup solid vegetable shortening
  • 1/2 cup butter or margarine*
  • 1 teaspoon Clear Vanilla
  • 4 cups sifted confectioners’ sugar (approx. 1 lb.)
  • 2 tablespoons milk**

Instructions

  1. Cream butter and shortening with electric mixer. Add vanilla. Gradually add sugar, one cup at a time, beating well on
  2. medium speed. Scrape sides and bottom of bowl often. When all sugar has been mixed in, icing may appear dry. Add the milk and beat at medium speed until light and fluffy, usually only about one minute. Keep icing covered with a damp cloth until ready to use. For best results, keep icing bowl in refrigerator when not in use. Refrigerated in an airtight container, this icing can be stored 2 weeks.
  3. Rewhip before using.
  4. *Substitute all-vegetable shortening and 1/2 teaspoon Wilton Butter Flavor for pure white icing and stiffer consistency.
  5. **Add 3-4 tablespoons light corn syrup per recipe to thin for icing cake.

I made the chocolate version and it was the best icing ever. It spread so nicely over my cake and the taste was amazing. I am going to try this one tomorrow! Hope I will love it just as much! Thanks for sharing.
