This is my Favorite Christmas Cookie. My grandmother made these every year. They are full of fruit, nuts and spices and are just a wonderful cookie.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup shortening 2 cups brown sugar 2 eggs 3 1/2 cups sifted flour 1/2 cup sour milk 1 tsp. baking powder 1/2 tsp salt 1 tsp baking soda 2 tsp cinnamon 1 tsp nutmeg 1 cup chopped walnuts 2 cups raisins 1 cup chopped dates

Instructions

  1. Cream shortening, sugar and eggs. Sift together dry ingredients and add to first mixture, alternating with the milk. Stir in the raisins, dates and nuts. (Batter will be stiff)
  2. Drop by teaspoon onto greased cookie sheet. Bake at 375
  3. until lightly browned, approx 8 mins.
