German Chocolate Cake

This was my grandmothers very favorite recipe. Mine too! If your feeling lazy Ihave used the icing recipe with a Pillsbury choc cake and it's really good too.German Chocolate Cake
Ingredients
- 4 oz Bakerâ??s German Chocolate ½ C Boiling water 1 C Butter 2 C Sugar 4 Egg Yolks 1 Tsp Vanilla 2&1/2 C sifted Cake Flour 1 Tsp Baking Soda ½ Tsp Salt 1 C Buttermilk 4 Egg whites stiffly beaten
Instructions
- Melt Chocolate in Boiling water and let cool. Cream butter and sugar until fluffy, and yolks 1 at a time beating well after each. Blend in Vanilla and Chocolate. Sift Flour with Soda and Salt. Starting with the flour, by adding ¼ of it into the Chocolate mixture stir then add ¼ C of buttermilk. Add each part flour and Buttermilk until all gone . Fold in the beaten egg whites. Pour into 3 -8 or 9 inch cake pans that have been greased and dusted with flour. Bake @ 350 for 30 to 40 minutes. Fill with Icing recipe below:
- German Chocolate Icing
- Combine 1 Cup evaporated milk,1 Cup Sugar, 3 litely beaten Egg yolks, ½ Cup Butter and 1 Tsp of Vanilla. Cook and stir consently over medium heat until thickened . Approx 12-13 minutes. Remove from heat and add 1 & 1/3 Cups of coconut and 1 Cup Chopped Pecans. Cool until thick enough to spread on cake (Makes 2 & ½ Cups) If I had it which I dont't . I can tell you it would be very high in fat,carbs and sugar.
