My Grandmother handed down her famous German Chocolate Icing recipe to me and I couldn’t wait to share it with each of you. Mix it and enjoy.
Ingredients
1 Cup Granulated Sugar
1 Cup Half and Half
1/2 Cup Margarine
3 Large Egg Yolks
1-1/2 Cup Coconut
1 Cup Pecans (cookie chopped)
1 tsp. Vanilla
Instructions
On Low to Medium and in large 2 Quart sauce pot, add sugar, half and half, margarine together with a wisk. Add the egg yolks lightly beaten. Wisk continually until mixture begins to thicken. Remove from stove top and add in vanilla, coconut, and pecans. Allow to cool before applying to cake.
To answer cutypatutie...German Chocolate Cake refers to a type of chocolate cake and this classic coconut/pecan caramel frosting on top! Some folks will fill and top with this frosting and then pipe some nice rich chocolate frosting to decorate the top. HTH
Oh and this recipe sounds awesome...straight to my favs!
I have made this recipe 4 times now, and it is definitely one of my favorites! I have had NOTHING but RAVE reviews on this from all my customers. Definitely a keeper! The consistency is perfect and it has just the right amount of sweetness. The only thing I change is I use real butter, as I never cook or bake with margarine.
Thanks so much. So glad I noticed this today since I am making a Greman chocolate cake this weekend. Take care.
Can this be made with butter instead of margarine?
Just a question, the recipe says German Chocolate, but I don't see any chocolate in the ingredients?
