Chocolate Hazelnut Buttercream

This is the most delicious chocolate buttercream I’ve ever tried! It combines chocolate and Nutella, two of my favorite flavors. It’s great for filling or frosting (I like it best with a yellow cake), and I like to use Heath Bar pieces in the filling to make it extra yummy!

Chocolate Hazelnut Buttercream

Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 2/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 4 cups (1 pound box) confectioner’s sugar
  • 1-1/3 cups Nutella
  • 2 tsp. vanilla
  • milk

Instructions

  1. Cream butter and shortening. Sift cocoa with sugar and add gradually to the creamed mixture. Add a tablespoon of milk at a time until desired consistency is reached. Add Nutella and vanilla, and blend until smooth and creamy.

Worth every decadent calorie!

This was awesome. Just made it. I ended up doubling the recipe before I realized that I didnt have enough nutella to double that part but it is still good. I want to add the rest of the nutella though to make it more like hazelnut. I also bought some offbrand of nutella that was half price and it is just as yummy.

I just made this, and it's awesome! I did however, have to use more milk. And next time, I will use more Nutella! :) But that's just because I love the stuff!

If you don't want to use the Nutella, all the other ingredients, make a great chocolate filling/frosting!

First time using Nutella in anything. This was delicious. Loved this!!! May try the peanut butter for my hubby who loves peanut butter & choc! Will be a go to frosting for me. Made more than enough for 2 dozen big swirly cupcakes with leftovers.

I made this for a special friend, and oh my! is it good. I may have added a bit more milk but I found that it made it fluffy and whipped-like. Dee-lish-shuss and worth the calories!

Just made this for a yellow cake. Deee-lish!!  One recipe made enough to frost and fill 2 8"layers with about half still left-over. It makes a buttercream, so excpect it to freeze and/or refrigerate for an extended period. Decorated with hazelnut Oreos!!
